Males may be aggressive, but at worst the hens will just run away. Some just don't like human contact, no matter the breed. We've had several "flighty" white egg laying breeds that have turned out to be quite friendly.

Honestly, I always dyed brown eggs. The color always seemed a lot more vibrant- you might give it a shot and see if you’re happy with it
