I have 5 eggs under a broody. I set them Oct. 4th. My 2 broodys keep swaping out sitting on the eggs! What will happen when they hatch? Who will take care of them? Also, they may hatch early. When I checked them last night, I could hear peeps from all of them and 1 of them already had a pip! Is that normal?

If they were set on the 4th...then hatching day is Saturday, the 25th. CONGRATS! Are they close to the ground where the little ones can get in and out for food and water!? Im sure both hens will take care of them, the alpha hen will of course win the mothering duty. Congrats on the hatch and dont forget the pics!!! [IMG]

Quote:Be very careful when those chicks hatch it may be a battle royal between the two hens. I tried that once and it ended really badly, one chick hatched and the two hens fought over it and the chick ended up getting killed. I would say keep only one hen in there to raise the babies just to be on the safe side

I will try to move her to a nest box on the floor this evening, they are about a foot off the floor now. I thought I would just leave them in the coop unless there are any problems. I do have a small 5'x11' coop in the barn. I will need to buy some chick starter and I have a small waterer I can use for the chicks.
I am so excited!!! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
