Gray Ghost Chillin' With My Peeps

    Feb 13, 2010
I have a flock of 25 hens almost a year old, consisting of easter eggers, red sex links, black sex links, and white leghorns. I also have nine 10-week-old pullets which are barred rocks and silver-laced wyandottes. Along with my 10 week pullets I received four mystery chicks which as they grow up I am pretty sure are Rhode Island Red cockerels. I wasn't planning on having roosters but now that I have these cockerels I am thinking why not keep a rooster or two around and see if I end up with some chicks. My question is, will those roosters plus those hens result in good egg laying progeny? What kind of mutt chickens will I end up with?

    Thanks in advance.

You'll end up with a lot of brown mutts who lay plenty brown eggs, plus any chicks from your Easter Eggers may lay green eggs too. The Leghorns and Sexlinks will throw some white color in there, the Easter Eggers may throw some silver coloring in there too, depending on what color EE's you have, and your black sex links will throw a little black in too, however the majority of the flock will be brown-red in color.

RIR x Barred Rock = Black Sexlinks

RIR x Silver Laced Wyandottes = Pseudo Red Sexlinks (red sexlinks just with different patterns of red)
