Some say they are really aggressive, I've never met a mean roo from RIRs...now Im raising a pair of Buckeyes for a customer and that cockerel is AGGRESSIVE (and people say that buckeyes are the alternative to RIRs....well in my minimal experience I'd say no) LOL.

I'm hardly an eggs-pert

- only had chickens for 2 months now.
but my Delawares are the friendliest, most curious of the 5.

The Black Stars are warming up & have a reputation as egg-lying machines.

The Houdan is still a hysterical Diva

, so I can't say I'd recommend that breed as friendly.

But, again, what do I know?
Call me next year

I have New Hampshire Reds, Buff Orpingtons and Easter Eggers. When they were younger, the BO's were the sweetest, but now, the NHR's are the friendliest. Showgirl (NHR) layed her 1st egg when she was exactly 17 weeks old and her "sis" Charlotte started laying at 17 1/2 weeks and has layed 6 eggs in the past week. The other two NHR's should start laying any day now. I don't expect the BO's and EE's to lay for at least another 2 weeks, but with this darn heat in North Texas, I just don't know how they'll do.

The NHR's have turned out to be very pretty and are not skittish at all - various shades of deep red, iridescent feathers. One is much lighter - more of a ginger colour, thus her name is Ginger...

It's hard for me to comment on the other two breeds - I think just like girls hitting their puberty years, their hormones are raging and until they start laying, I don't think they'll settle down too much.

I don't believe that any of the above chickens go broody. Check Henderson's Chart for more info: http://www.ithaca.edu/staff/jhenderson/chooks/chooks.html
