What would do this?

I just put my crane to bed and noticed something in front of the patio doors. This is what I found. No commotion, no foot prints but this.
No foot prints wouldn’t surprise me because we had a huge ice storm last night and everything is frozen solid. Yesterday evening I saw an oppussom walking around by there and I chased it off. What would have done this? I can imagine an oppussom would do that and just leave it. Especially with such a clean cut. Owl? It’s 11:30pm here.

Do you have a cat? Cats love bringing dead things as gifts. My dad's cat liked catching mice and eating the head then leaving the body for us to find. A spooked predator might have left it also.

I do and he does bring his prizes to us but he was not out yesterday or last night. The mouse was still there this morning in the same spot.

It was a cat then they will leave kill had to pickup dead bird all there cleaning our front little yard nothing grows but whirly gigs and herb pots some nothing in them
