there a very painful shots that are injected into your abdomen many of them to cure them this girl survied it with out them...
so not 100% fatal.. not common to survive.. but people do survive..
animals im not so sure.. i think they dont take chances and ethunize them if they show signs then they do test on the animals brain to see if it really did have it..

That girl survived because they did an experimental treatment and essentially put her into a controlled coma. Very phenomenal that she survived!

But wanted to note, rabies both the vaccine AND the HRIG (human rabies immunoglobulin) do not go into the abdomen anymore. I am speaking from experience, since I had to have the post exposure prophylaxis, ALL those bells and whistles. The vaccine is given like a normal shot into the deltoid, no biggie. The HRIG is given both at the site of the bite and into a large muscle group, like your glutes (butt). HRIG is only given once at the ER upon first exposure, but then you keep getting the vaccine for a month or two. I think it was day 1 (exposure day), day 4, day 7, day 14, and day 30 were all the days I was required to go in and get the rabies vaccine post exposure.

By the way, HRIG, is like the consistency of molasses. HUGE needle gauge and a lot of oomph is required to shoot that into your muscles. I know my nurse was flabbergasted that I was so nonchalant about the injections. Afterward, told me she'd likely have been crying through it all if she was in my place.

it really is phenomenal isnt it!! when i heard this 4 or so years ago i couldnt beleave it!! she is a scientific marval.
oh thats nice to know i thought they still do

If it is current on rabies you have absolutely no reason to worry about contracting rabies. If rabies is outdated you cannot be sure that is not still effective without a titre blood test. Vaccines can last up to 10 years or longer. I purchase vaccines and give at home. Dog law in pa. only requires a 10 day quarantine to watch animal for rabies symptoms. The only way to test for rabies is to test brain tissue, which requires euthanasia. No reason to kill any animal that does not have rabies symptoms. Always take dog bites seriously. Dog bites tend to tear the outer layer of skin from the underling tissue with only leaving small punctures which can become badly infected. The wounds will require flushing with sterile solution, along with an oral antibiotic.

What happens if a dog gets rabies? It dies a horrible painful death, as does any person or any other mammal that it bites, scratched, or spits on.

Quarantine for a dog that is exposed to a rabid animal and is not current on its vaccines is SIX MONTHS in total isolation, completely confined with only one person allowed to feed, water, and clean.

Since the rabies vaccinations are really cheap and work really well, there is really no excuse to not keep a dog and cat fully vaccinated and up to date.

Rabies is fatal and a horrible way to die. Don't mess around with it. Vaccinate your pets.

i think they dont let the dog live if it shows ANY signs of the disease.. they put it down.. they isolate it to be sure it does or doesnt..
if it shows signs within the incubation period they shoot it with a dart gun as a leathel injection and carry it out post mort.
then do tests on the animals brain to see if it did have it. then they burn the body in a insinerator (sp?)

10 days here also different from state to state.

True only way to be sure, is test the brain........reason people relocating predators spread rabies mile away......most will say they looked healthy. Sorry little off topic.....just wish people would stop doing the relocating rabies is my biggest fear.

My uncle took in a dog that someone drop off. 7 days later it when around biting everyone, he was test found to have rabies.....family of 7 all had to take those shots , back when they took them for think 14 day .....my uncle almost didn't make it thru the shots.
