Maybe a stupid question, but if we have buff and silver hens, and buff and black roosters, what baby chicks could we see? Would they all be one colored or would you get mixed color babies?

Interesting. I once bred my Blue Ameraucana roo too my Lavender Ameraucana hen and got a mix. About half the clutch of babies were Lavender and the other half Blue.

Buff on buff = buff chicks
Buff rooster on silver hens = white chicks
Black rooster on buff = black with buff coming through
Black rooster on silver hens = white chicks

I am thinking silver means dominant white or is that wrong?
I am still learning all this.

@lilliesanchicks - I think it's a dominant gene with some hidden genetics for another color. I could be wrong, tho.
