what would i get?

I had a broody autralorp that hatched out some BR, banty Jap x cochin, and some of her own eggs with an RIR roo. I ended up with 3 boys that were sex-linked (barred) and a solid black girl and the 2 banties. (I have to asumed the barred ones were from the BR hens- I only put 3 eggs in there). I sold them before they were POL- so I don't know if she ever ended up with the bleeding red or not. Wow- I forgot how crappy mama hen looked then

You just about nailed it right on here.

I did this cross about two years ago this coming spring, I used a Production(hatchery)red as the male over a BA hen and hatched out 8 chicks 5 pullets and 3 roos.

They are not sexable by color at hatch as they look exactly like BA's at hatch.

The pullets feathered out solid black with very little if any red ticking in the neck and also were good layers of pretty good sized eggs for beginers. I really don't know how they turned out later on as I sold them at the begining of this last years laying season as I was concentrating on hatching reds mostly as they were the demand where I was located at the time. The guy I sold them to was quite pleased with them then but I have since moved from there around 6 mos. ago.

The 3 roos feathered out solid black then when all of their sex feathers came in they came out the deepest mahogany, shiney red in the hackles, wing bows, saddles, but the tail sickles are green-black/ shiney sheen to them. I 've still got one of the Roos and as a matter of fact just took a pic. of him today but my sister came by and borrowed the camera that I had borrowed form her but should be back tomorrow and I'll upload the pics I have of him on here maybe tomorrow evening. He's a pretty boy just got thru molting so he is shining like a new dime but has a bum foot that I've been working on trying to get it back in good shape. He banged it up fighting though the fence kicking on the tin windbreak I had up there and broke his toe and got infected and turned into bumblefoot.

anyway maybe tomorrow I can get Ol' Foghorn loaded here for you to see

P.S. He looks like a BC marans or a Partridge Rock with very dark red-brown sex feathers.

Thank you ma'am! I am trying SOOOO hard to learn this stuff. Its like starting completely over, again. Terminology (and definitions) is what I really need to get to learning and quick. Not that I need to be a genetics expert, but it sure has piqued my interest

Thanks again

I hatched out some Black Jersey Giant x Rhode Island Red chicks...........all hatched out black, all feathered in black with red leakage around neck area. Of the 3 pullets, 1 looks just like a black sex link, the other two have smaller amounts of red around neck. The two males also looked like female sex links, black with red around neck.........up until they started getting their "rooster" feathers and then had red scattered throughout their entire body, one with red allover his chest also. I sold them last weekend, so no current pics. I still have the females and can get a pic this week. I did a Black Giant roo over RIR hen, but I think it works the same for both sexes and Black Giants look almost the same as a Australorp, so......

He is looks like a false or pseudo-birchen bird. His phenotype would lead one to believe that the black australorp was carrying mahogany. He also appears to have a body type similar to a rock.
