Not sure if this is the correct section of the forum.

I just got a blue australorp cockerel for my red sexlinks.
Does anyone know what the chicks from the two breeds would look like?
Would they have a name or they just easter eggers?

I'm a noob chicken owner, still learning.
Thanks

Well, they wouldn't be Easter eggers. There's no blue or green egg layers in the mix, so no Easter

The'd be barnyard mixes, laying brown eggs. Probably great little layers, as both those parent breeds are bred to lay like champs.

color wise....your blue bird is genetically black, with one dilute gene to lighten the black to blue. When you breed black to red, black is dominant and the red just kind of leaks through. Females wind up looking like black sex link pullets and males black with red/gold hackle, saddle feathers and wings. Kind of like a black copper Marans in coloring, not exactly but similar. So, you could get some pretty blue and red birds.

Then, add in the white from your red sex links. That basically turns any black into white...including your blue. So, long story short, you'll have a very colorful flock if you hatch enough birds. Black, blue, red and white

Thanks for the reply. It was the answer I was looking for.

Also thanks for clearing the easter eggers up for me, I didn't know that.
This is gonna be great breeding these. I look forward to seeing the colors and expanding my flock.
