when i worked in texas as a "caregiver" , i was allowed to do all of that. i wasnt very comfortable with it though, even though it was legal.

In the state of Arkansas CNA are not allowed to TOUCH medication. Even medicated creams and lotions.

thats the same here unless you have been deligated the task and trained for it... but you need to be deligated for each patient and re trained for each patient too

I found this site for working as a nurse in the USA.
Maybe it varies by state, but I know RN's can dispense meds. Maybe LPN's but CNA can't. My friend is a Nurse Practitioner, and she can write prescriptions, etc. She's basically like a doctor, but without the doctor's degree.

That particular place the OP is talking about sounds a little shady.

When i worked in a nursing home i was a CNA..and we NEVER touched the meds. Big NO-no!
But when i worked in a rest home i was med certified and was allowed to dispense meds.. and i wasnt even a CNA then!
and my friend that works in a group home for mentally challenged folks is also med certified and she dispenses meds.
I think it depends where you work..
