WHAT WOULD YOU DO?????????calling all goat owners

I'm not a goat owner, so I don't know....but I have a thought that may work.

What about a dog shock collar, the variety that has the remote. When she starts to go after another goat, she gets a zap.

Don't know, just a suggestion. It's a great way to train dogs, but there might be something about goats that would make it bad.

My three year old doe, Narcissa, is dominent goat. She did this extreme head butting to my little Nigerian Pygmy wether when he was introduced to the farm.

I too was concerned because it wasn't just butting it was slamming and I felt that he would have broken bones from it.

I separated the goats at night, which I didn't like, but that was when Gimli couldn't get away from Narcissa. They have a 12 x 12 stall during the night and a full horse-sized paddock during the day. I put Gimli in the 9 x 9 pony stall.

Gimli had his own Igloo to be in during the day since I knew he wouldn't go into the big stall with Narcissa in there.

Long story shorter.... I brought home two more wethers to keep Gimli company and he ended up jumping into the stall with Narcissa and Isobelle, her daughter. Everyone has resolved the personal space issues, although I do keep the two new wethers separate at night because they are big food moochers. It helped to have five goats in the mix instead of just three.

I don't know if this helps. Narcissa now does not do the slamming and Gimli has even stood up for himself. It helped that the two new wethers stood up to Narcissa. She's still the Queen but doesn't feel the need to kill others to be so.

ok...Here it goes.I have more than 3 goats. I will not cut or dehorn any goat. That is cruel in my eyes. I dont leave her pen all the time. She is with other goats during the day. From 830 am till dark. When it becomes dark i put her in her own pen by her self. She dont mind it. But come morning she wants out and everything is fine. So i think i am going to keep doing what i am doing. THanks for the replys.

oh ya i forgot to mention one important thing. SOme on here mentioned that they have the same problem but also with people. SHe isnt like that. IF she was there is no way i would keep her. SHe is very well manner goat towards people. She is friendly and loves the petting and getting grain out of your hand. Just that she is a really bully towards other goats and things have to be her way.

If dehorning is not for you: How about taking some tennis balls and gluing them onto the tips of her horns this way she really can't gore the other animals..... Another BYC'r suggested this and I really liked the idea.... If any of my goats start to get rough, I will use this method to keep them from goring others....

Since the barn is a smaller enclosed area it may be that she sees the whole barn as her territory and the others don't have much room to get away from her.... Is she in heat?? This could make the aggression worse...

This is really a tough call... I don't allow mean animals to stay very long....

I wish you luck in anything you decide.

Goats can actually be very nasty with one another regarding who is the boss.. I have had and witnessed some brutal pot shots into walls, gates, me etc from my crew.. This is also why absolutely goats should be disbudded!!!!!! Horns although asthetically pleasing to some are very DANGEROUS to you, themself, and other goats!!!!!

Also if tennis balls don't work you could do them up with vet wrap or something.. I believe there are some specific supplies in the goat supply sites..Hoeggers etc..
