i'd do the same thing at first, but then i'd take into consideration the abandoned parking lot, the sinister character slouching against the concrete wall over there to your left, and the fact that most people wouldn't be carrying $1000 dollars around in their pockets when walking through abandoned parking lots. so i'd photograph the scene, take the money, and make a dash for the road, where, if Sinister Character came after me, i would have a more likely chance of being seen. (i'm obsessed with mysteries right now... but that's probably obvious.
