What would you do with your chickens if you won the lotto?

I already have my dream farmette - 5ac - and am happy with it.
Location is close enough to the Big City for an Urban Fix when I need it, and small enough so I can manage it myself.

If money were no object I'd retire and get a 2nd place near some close friends who are now 2 hours away.
And a 3rd place in So CA to be closer to my Dad (he's 97!), Aunt (95) and brother - we're pretty much all the family that's left.
I'd split my time between here & there.

I'd upgrade my horse trailer to one with Living Quarters and spend more time horsecamping.

And as a fairly new Chicken Junkie, of course I'd get MORE CHICKENS!!!!!!!

faykokoWV: you are a generous soul & that is a great idea

Me? not so much....

I think I would keep this house; I love it and when its all done and finished inside (again!) I will fall in love with it all over again . . .but I would definitely help my kids, buy more land, probably build a spectacular shed house, as I LOVE them . . .more Alpacas,

chickens,

geese, goats . . .maybe a camel,

they intrigue me too . . .but definitely more land and more alpacas. I would also help a LOT of people. . .I am a very giving person, would give you the shirt off my back if it would help in most cases . . .but can't afford too now. . .but its fun to dream!!!!

I would buy them all a trip to freezer camp! Then I would rip down all my coops and fencing and throw away all the feeders and waterers and chicken poop... I would hire someone to level the area they were in, replant the grass, plant flowers, put in a really tall private security fence with cameras and electrify my chainlink fence and put concertina wire around the top!!

Then I would sell all my Arizona oceanfront property and move to Russia!

Wow, more chickens, who would've guessed? I'd like to add, buy the rental house next door, tear it down (it's just bad luck) and then I'd have the two acres required by the county to have a horse. Take that, subdivision! Seems like everyone likes where they're at for the most part, just want more of it. That is a cheering thought today.
WriterofWords is funny. Having a bad day with the birds?

Reminds me of the saying of how to make a million bucks farming...start with ten million bucks.

Faykokowv: so what does it involve to start a grassroots program to teach beginner chickens? I saw a link to a news report about girls teaching a chicken summer camp recently (don't know where, sorry). Would the county extension service / 4H be a starting point? What would a starter kit / class cover? (I think I'll hijack my own thread here) Would you do school show-and-tells, or those adult education workshops that the county sponsors, like aerobics and painting and such? There was the guy in Atlanta that gave out chicks and a starter kit this spring to promote suburban birdkeeping. That is a do-able idea that might not need the lotto

I already have the perfect farm, but I would pay off all our debts, and build a new house on our lot. Then I would build all new pens and runs and I would breed poultry (Plymouth Rocks maybe?).
Then I would build myself a super nice processing shed and get the licence to do small scale processing of poultry for small sustainable farms, hiring a couple of local people to work there. (We need this so bad in my part of NC I cant even tell ya!)
Then I would sponsor school projects. Every elementary school in NC should have a little chicken tractor and a garden to keep it in!

I have had this dream many times but of course my priorities changed once I got chickens! What I would do is buy a small farm, about 10 acres or so, rural enough that my birds could happily wander without my worrying about roads that they might cross, or neighbor's that might not appreciate their insect maintenance skills. Of course I would still fence off my property just to ease my own mind. I would try to make sure the property already had a pond, but if it didn't, I'd have a nice big one put in, at least an acre big. I'd have new, big, insulated coops built, a big brooder house built, and a nice shaded area where I could sit outside with my birds in a hammock or chair and talk with my birds. And of course, I'd get more chickens! LOTS more chickens. I'd have every breed and color imaginable and probably start my own hatchery, but I'd make sure my birds were quality before I bred them and sold their chicks. My birds would want for nothing. They'd have plenty of fresh food, water and more treats than they could ever dream of. And for the pond I'd have muscovies and mallards, and many other kinds of ducks, plus some geese, and I'd want a couple peacocks to walk around the yard too. It would be my own little sanctuary, my little piece of Heaven on Earth. Oh, and I'd have a house built too for my kids and I to live in! Almost forgot that! And I'd want a room built onto the house specifically for incubating and brooding chicks. There would be an area for my dogs where they could play, chicken free, and an area for my kids to play, also free of chickens. I'm not waiting for a lottery winning though, especially since I haven't had the extra money to spend on lottery tickets in more than a year. That's why I am heading back to college, so I can get my degree, get a better job, and make my dream a reality! However reality may have less acreage, fewer chickens, and a property with a pre-existing house as opposed to having one built, lol. I better get a REALLY good job...
