What would you do?

I have a 14 year old cat, that stopped eating and drinking on Monday, he's in no obvious pain, and sleeping a lot. I want my boy to die at home, not at the vet. If your cat was dying, would you let nature take its course or would you take to the vet to be put to sleep? I am so torn. I have a great understanding of death, and know that it can take awhile,its just the wait and watching it happen. My boy is being treated well during this process and I'm trying to keep him comfortable. This is a a beloved cat also, he's been my friend and l will miss him following me around the yard as I lock everyone up or just gardening. Thank you for listening.

As long as he is not in pain. But also you will have to watch him suffer threw his final days even in no pain. The not eating thing is not a good sign but could he just be sick? I wouldnt want to watch if i knew it was coming. Mine had cancer and was heavily loved and spoiled his last couple months but as soon as he stopped eating it was a day before his pain started and i had to make the decision.

Do what is best for you and your cat.

I'm sorry your kitty is not well.
He may simply be ill and not dying at all. The only person who can tell you that is the vet.
If it is terminal, there is nothing that says you can't take him home to die there, as long as he isn't in pain.

He was a very healthy cat. Just over the past month or so he started slowing down. He's not hiding as one would think. He's done that in the past,when he had an infection. He just has been hanging with me or our pitbull in his crate. Doesn't want to be bothered by our kitten or border follies, who was his friend. I did call the vet though and he said to give him the weekend if not by then he'll come over and put him down.

I am so sorry, I know how you feel. A few years ago our scottie passed. She stopped eating and drank little. We took her to the vet, and they did an x ray. She had some type of mass in her lungs. She didn't appear to be in pain, but the vet gave pain meds anyway. About five days after the the first day she stopped eating she passed. I would rather let them go on their own, but you need to do what you feel is best.
