What would you get if you crossed...

Mostly, what color egg would the offspring lay and is there any idea on what traits they might exhibit?


A) a whitefaced black spanish rooster with EE hens?

B) a whitefaced black spanish rooster with sexlink hens?

C) a sexlink rooster crossed on sexlink hens? (are the offsping sexlinked? is the rate of lay and other qualities in the original sexlink the same, better, or decreased in the offspring?)

D) a sexlink rooster crossed on EE hens? (would the eggs laid by the offspring be an ugly olive color?)

E) a sexlink rooster crossed on ideal/ leghorn hens? (brown or white egglaying offspring?)

You won't know the answer to your questions until you try it. EE's are mutts with a diverse genetic background. This huge gene pool makes the results fairly unpredictable.

The EE's are already a mixed breed chicken. Using them to produce more chickens will give you another set of mixed breed chickens. The genetics behind them is such a large pool no one can tell you what will come if it.

They could lay a brown or a green egg. You can't predict which ones will lay the green eggs either. Also, you can end up as one of the people that genetics work out in such a way that you don't get any green eggs just all brown or even pink.

Unpredictable.

So, would using Ameraucana clear up the unpredictableness? I was just looking to use the "blue egg gene" in the equation.

my mother has 3 young girls tiat are a cross between a black sex link and an EE. The babies are so diverse it is funny! One tiat looks just like a delaware and lays olive eggs, one that looks mostly EE, she is peach with a huge grey beard, she lays brown eggs, and one that looks pretty much like a female black sex link who hasn't started laying yet.

all are sweet and beautiful girls. She also has a little roo from the same mix. He is stunning!I am thinking of hatching some for myself!
