Let Your Freak Flag Fly
Hi, my incubator is arriving tomorrow! It will fit 7 eggs. Right now I have 9 hens and a rooster who give me 5-8 fertile eggs a day. The Breeds are Rooster-easter egger Hens-2 red sex link, barred rock, 2 leghorn, one cuckoo maran, 1 speckled sussex, 1 SL wyandotte and one cream legbar. These are just educated guesses, and there's a good chance some of them are mixes. I am hatching for dual purpose, I plan to eat the roos and integrate the hens. Here are my questions...
1.Whose eggs would you try to get/why?
2.Would you try to accumulate alike eggs, or go for a mix of 7 you got in one day?
3. If I have only seen my roo breed a couple of the hens, should I assume he is breeding all of them? Or just try to get eggs from birds that I have seen him breed?
I have a small incubator so I really would like to go for the best hatch rate possible. Which starts with egg selection. Thanks so much for any input.
