Does anyone here have a Cuckoo silkie Rooster or know someone who does. I have a cuckoo SG rooster and I had a Started Cuckoo Silkie roo and I lost him the other day a board fell on him and killed him. So now I need to replace him with another Cuckoo Silkie roo. If so please pm me a price and shipping.

I got eggs yesterday from an ebay auction and the packing was one of the worst that I have seen in all the years I have been buying hatching eggs. I still cannot believe that anyone would think that it was acceptable.

Eggs were wrapped with a 1"-1 1/2" piece of bubble wrap around the middle which left both ends of the egg exposed. The bottom of the box had 3 plastic grocery bags then there were styrofoam coffee cups placed in the box with the eggs set inside the cups. A few more cups were thrown in as cushioning I guess. The box was by no means packed with enough stuff to prevent anything from moving. The results the eggs were tossed out of the cups the first time the box was turned in the shipping process then just continued to roll around in the box. Many of the eggs came out of the bubble wrap. The total surprise was out of 9 eggs only two were totally smashed. I left the other 7 set overnight and candled a little while ago. Two eggs had the yolk burst and are totally scrambled, the remaining have really bad floating air cells. This is not a new seller and has sold on BYC also. I did notify them of the bad packing job and stated that I was not asking for any more eggs or a refund but only hoped that they would correct the poorly packed eggs in the future .

I just had to vent.

I got some like that from a byc'er. The bottom of the eggs where crushed. I couldn't believe anybody would even think that protects the eggs from breakage. Sorry you had to go thru that.

Thats awful, I only remmber getting bad packageing from someone on byc once and I really coudnt complain as they were sending me free eggs with something else I had gotton but it was still awful just a bunch of quail eggs in a big zip lock back with some papertowels O.O . How is everyones weekend going so far. Im working on trying to figure out how to tell what hatches when and from whome. Should I take all the eggs back out and put peoples names on them . I wrote set dates on most of them but with staggerd hatches I think maybe I should do hatch dates to ? 151 eggs in two lg incs is a lot of work

I use different colored Sharpies and draw a line or circle on them. Then I have a journal that gives me the key. Red line due _______, blue line due ______, etc... The journal has what breed and who they came from, set date, due date, hatch date. I don't like to write on the eggs too much or handle them too much.

Try candeling 240 quail eggs fast. It's not possible. I had to find which one was stinking a couple of weeks ago.So My grandson helped me and we where both picking up little eggs and sniffing each one. We found 5 then a week later 1 exploded in the bator. We missed one.

I've got another bator with chicken and guinea eggs in it. Gladely the staggard hatches are dwindling down. All 3 bators are half full right now. All should be done cooking by mid June.

the worst smell--EVER!!!

I have 1, yes 1 egg in the incubator! It's pipping right now. It's a silly story. My silchin went broody on 24 barnyard eggs and I knew most weren't fertile since I lost Bowie so long ago and Goliath lost his mojo. So I candled them all and had 1 fertile! I gave her the last 3 from the incubator and when those hatched I put this one barnyard egg into the incubator. I'm hoping I can slip the chick under her tomorrow and she'll take it in so I won't have to brood it myself.

I'm thinking of shutting my bator off for July & aug. we will see if that happens.

I gotta keep mine going. I have to get our share of quail in the freezer then sell what I can which is usually all of them. Last year I sold them all and didn't get but 5 in the freezer. Since our household number doubled I need to concentrate on filling my freezer for winter. I've had pretty good luck with the swap eggs I got. I counted around 25 so far. It's hard to get an accurate count without taking each one out at a time. I count the empty shells. I only had 1 die so far that hatched and a couple that didn't make it out of the shell so not bad for shipped eggs. I have 1 of my porcelain silkies working on hatching now. I'll probably wake up to a fluffy baby. I got the adults from Bobbi Porto and they are beautiful of course. I wish all my silkies where like her line is. I may buy more adults from her in the future and replace those of mine that are not quite what I want them to look like.

I've been slowly working on a cabinet bator thats got 5 shelves. Then when thats done we're gonna make one with 3 shelves for a hatcher. Then I can have my kitchen table back. We'll just be able to pile more stuff on it. I'll be able to get in my deep freeze too.

I got BBS Cochins and BBS orphs on the same day talk about bing confused. I wrote the wrong ones on the 1st set and had to mark it out and write the correct abbreviation.

When they hatch...the Cochin will have feathered legs. Easy Peasy !!

I have a horrible habit of hatching look a like breeds in the same hatcher. Then I am stuck growing them out to figure who is who.

Right now it's BBS Orps and Blue & Splash Plymouth Rocks.
