I went to check on my started pullets this morning, and thought it was a little odd that four of them were out roaming through my garden. When I looked at their coop, I found three dead pullets... my only Sicilian Buttercup and two Welsummers. Something chewed a hole through the mesh and got them. It was horrendous... it literally shredded them, eating their guts and skinning their necks. I am horrified. I can't find it in me to cry cause I'm just so dang mad. I can't find any tracks around their pen so I have no idea what did it. I am furiously drawing up plans for a new coop because this can't happen again, and I'm probably going to spend way more money than I should, but that's just how it's going to be. I left the coop door open to my big chickens and nothing touched them, it must have only been after the little ones.

Ugh... my heart has sunken to the pit of my stomach.

That's horrible!! I'm so sorry for you to have to find them like that. I hope you have better luck with the next coop.

I have a question. My jumbo brown quail are about 3 weeks old and my big chicks are about 2 1/2 wees old . I have them sleeping in a big rummbermaid bucket with most the top cut out and replaced with wire mesh. My house with AC on is between 77-78 and when I turn it off its between 78-86 . When they are in the play pen they have spots of sunshine that they like to lay in some times but other then that they dont seem cold even in the evening. So I havent put them under a light any more starting about 2 days ago. They are in the dinning room and there are 3 tubs of other chicks that have a light so that room is usually 78-80 . Even though they dont seem cold could I be hutring them not haveing them under a light anymore?

I don't think so, as long as they are moving around, not peeping ( the OMG UNHAPPY peep, not you must know I am here peeps) and not huddling. Just watch for smaller chicks that arn't as lively.

I really hate using ebay to sell eggs. I had a customer last month that claimed that they didn't get item as described. She claimed that she received broken eggs and they where stinky. Anybody that has received eggs from me knows better than that. They also claimed that the packing was not as described. Claimed that the eggs where at the bottom of the box with a small bit of shredded paper on top. They wanted a refund and left negative feedback before I even got notified they where unhappy. So me being me I offered to send replacements and even double box them which is what I did. I checked every egg carefully before wrapping it and they claimed that I should check eggs better than what I said I did because one was cracked when they got them. They offered to revise their feedback and asked me to send the request which I had no idea how because i've never knew it could be revised. So she sends me another nasty message that she is taking time out of her day to help me out and if i'm not going to send her the request then she's not going to ask me again to do it. It was just on and on mean hateful stuff. I finally found the feedback revision request and sent it to her. Now to just see what she has to say. I bet it won't be nice still.

I had a man about 4 years ago that bought several wind spinners that I had made. Then he wanted me to go to walmart and buy the materials so he could make some himself. He wasn't going to pay for it though and really expected me to do this. When he got his box of wind spinners and no materials to make some himself he made a complaint and held out the entire time that ebay gives before they make a decision and ebay made the decision that I did nothing wrong so he turns to paypal and makes a complaint and waits their time limit and they find me not in the wrong too. Then he left me a positve feedback that I was a great seller and great to do business with. I just knew he was going to leave negative feedback with a nasty note added to it.

I don't want to have to post eggs for sale there again if I can help it. I try to sell them here on BYC. There are just too many problems when dealing with ebay people. I had sold a book that the buyer never received. I had it insured and because the box top came back to me the po claimed that they can't pay the insurance amount because I couldn't prove the item was in the box and I didn't just cut the top off and bring it to them. So he was unhappy and left negative feedback. I wasn't going to refund money because I sent the box and had insurance on it. It wasn't my problem that a postal worker stole the book and that the po wouldn't pay the insured amount.

The PO sure causes alot of problems too. I just had to vent. That lady was soooo rude with every message she sent. It makes a person just want to stop selling then if I did that i'd have to get rid of my chickens.

I just got the revision and she changed it to a positive one and said I was a great ebayer and I worked with her to resolve the issue. I'm real tempted to leave an honest one about her. I haven't left a feedback on the sale yet. I will wait till i'm not upset about it before I leave one. I don't want to look like a jerk myself.

I agree. I think they really know how to work the system. That's why I have been leary about posting on there. I mean they can practically makeup any thing.

When someone leaves me an unjust feedback I don't do anything. They should have let me know there was a problem in the 1st place. They have also screwed them self with e-bay because if they leave negative feedback without attempting to contact you then they have no recourse to get their money back and you don't have to deal with them anymore you can block them. I just let all the good feedback speak for itself. I hate dealing with horrible people on e-bay and I sell there a lot.

Oh Emvick sorry for your troubles and I can sooo relate. I within the last couple of months sold some eggs on ebay myself, well the buyer happens to be someone who is here on byc and seems to do a ton of sell ads themselves. They did purchase two auctions (for 6 eggs each), I did send 8 extra eggs. All arrived in great condition according to buyer. So I get an email the other day stating that none of them developed and they can only assume they were all infertile and wanted to know what I was going to do to rectify the matter.... REALLY?!?!?

I immediately starting cracking eggs open and guess what I find, yeap fertile eggs!!! That person being someone that represents themselves as a breeder surely has to know the risk of shipped eggs right? Did none really make it?? (I ask myself that when something like this comes up) I have hatched from the very same birds this person received eggs from with excellent rates this spring, too many in fact.

The sad part for sellers is that there just isn't a good place to sell anymore.
