At what point do you give up and give a broody eggs? I have a Serama trio that hasn't laid in a month. I even took their box away and they continued to sit in the middle of their pen. Do I just give them some eggs so they make themselves useful or just wait it out?

I have never used broodies before ths is the 1st year. I had a hatch but then 2 hens were trying to care for the babies so I took the babies and gave each hen her own pile of eggs that are due on the same day, they seem to be doing the job. I actually have 3 broody Cochin mix hens sitting I locked them in the coop because the rooster was pestering them since I got rid of all his hens but one.

My silkie hens have stopped laying and are sitting on nothing. I go out several times a day and move them around, is there anything else to do? Look them out of the coop for the day ?

Reasoning with them has gotten me nowhere;)

I know lots of people have suggestions for breaking a broody. Myself, I never held out for long :) I stuffed eggs under broodies and watched them. If they were good broodies, I continued to stuff eggs the next time they sat, if not, I refused them eggs and in a month or three they got the idea.

I almost always give in. I had a rhode island red bantam one year that I tried multiple things on and I just couldn't break her. So I gave her some eggs rather than see her waste away for no reason.

My Andalusians are pretty easy to break. Most of the time I don't want to because they have been bred to be non-broody as a breed but I want them to be broody. So, I have one family in my flock that consistently has at least one girl go broody every year. This year has been a record year for broodies. 15 of them! The last two were Andalusians and its so hot right now that I don't want them to be broody - for their own sakes. So, I moved them into a different pen for a week or two and that did the trick.

My BLRW was so persistent and hard to break this year. Every time I caught her sitting in the nest box I removed her, but she went right back when I wasn't looking! I kept it up and kept taking the eggs she was sitting on and eventually she weaned herself away from the nest box. I had another that I gave to a friend because she just wouldn't break...

Side note: All my paypal money has been sent to those of you that I owe!

Billy service varies with breed and quality. This is my first yr to actually breed one of my goats. I took my Nigerian to a one of my dear friend's Pygmy billies. Brownie kidded a set of cream girls with blue eyes :) They were born the morning of a terrible afternoon storm... Thus they are named.... Stormy and Windy... Windy has a cow lick on her back leg that resembles a twister... lol

Is anyone else experiencing an egg drought? I got one egg yesterday. ONE!!

From 20 laying hens! I know a few are starting to molt so I'm not holding it against them, but I'm convinced the rest are just being lazy. I started adding vitamins/electrolytes yesterday in hopes that it will help, but I'm just at a loss. I don't have any sick birds. Could it be the heat??

It ABSOLUTELY could be the heat.

Ok I spoke with the lady and she is gonna swap me a 2 yr old Female Nubian that is noturious for throwing Twins and is due to go into heat in August. She said a lot of people will normally charge next to nothing or just free buck service. So I am thinking I am gonna do it. Hers are SQ Which that means nothing to me. But she said she has Blue eyes. Not sure what that has to do with it. Lol......

I'm thinking that it is... just another lonely egg today. I did some research last night and I think they are suffering from heat stress. I'm doing my best to keep them cool, they have fresh water every day and lots of shade. I'm really hoping their laying goes back to normal soon... I've had to turn my regular egg customers down because I barely have enough for my own family.
