Dats a wore-out baby
I just love seeing them hatch out when I am lucky enough to be there at the right moment. It's simply a gift from God. Plus I love it when the hubby says, "Happy Birthday little chick." I think chickens are finally growing on him.
How about some more Mary Kay![]()
I had one that was malpositioned like this one. I did carefully wet her, and she had trouble turning all the way around to chip out. It was a long time for her to get out. and I did finally help her chip a little because she was still hanging in there. She did get to kick off her shell, and was very tired. Her feet were in a bad position being in the egg her so long. We decided that if she was willing to fight, we would help her, and we made little casts to straited out he feet. Now it is difficult to tell which bird was the one with the twisted feet, but I think that earl intervention helped. She was able to get around on them, but as she grew and gained weight she would not, nor perch. Keep the bird moist! The others may be much bigger by the time the bird makes it out, and need separation.Chicks are hatching all over (6 yesterday and 3 last night) but one little thing pipped a couple days ago and made it's hole bigger and bigger. Looks like it tried to zip, making it about a 1/4 turn. It just sits there, peeping. I HATE culling, so I'm so afraid of helping. Help? Leave it?
I went ahead and took a look at her yesterday. She was pretty stuck probably because of the pip being so big for so long, but I'm not really sure what it was because no one else had any sticking problems at all. Anyway, I took her out and she hobbled around for awhile. I was concerned that she had a crooked neck or something at first, but she straightened up and is making her way around. I think it's harder to walk because she's SO caked. I need to give her a bath nowI had one that was malpositioned like this one. This one is doing well with the group now.![]()
It may take a full day. Keep him separated so any others don't trample him.How long does it take till they get there feet working after they hatch. The little silkie hatched but his leggs dont seem to work right he just kinda paddles them behind him and hasnt starting walking yet. Its been aobut 2 hours since he hatched. Please tell me this is normal.![]()
