I haven't been marking mine because when I set them, I mark the day of the month on each set egg, so when I am scrambling for bator space, I can mix different settings in different trays and not confuse myself, lol.
I mark DOH (date of hatch) with the hatch date on mine beside the collection day. That way I can see if/when a fertility issue arises & if anything may have happened in that time frame to cause it.

silkie-you sound like me! I just put another batch of my own mixed layers in lockdown. the cochins and ducks are all doing very well! another sharpie question...does it containanate them to eat? I just started wondering that myself...I'm getting so many eggs that I started selling them to eat again. so far no complaints but just wondering...

silkie, I will start sending tomorrow. I will try to double up on eggs/breeds. thanks again!!

Nope, doesn't hurt them at all. I've checked the inside of the shells after writing on them & it doesn't even soak through. I've seen threads where people have totally covered eggs in sharpie just to prove it won't hurt them & then incubated them. They hatched fine.

Tomorrow sounds great. Gives me time to clean the bator from this hatch before adding more. I only have a few eggs left in the 1 where your eggs are headed.

You mean me, you got the laundry soap from.

I think $5 is fine, nice used or new stuff, Dollar Tree stuff is fine. I think age categories are great. I have 11 yo boy, 13 yo girl, and 17 yo boy! I wasn't going to put the 17 yo in, but if others have older kids in, I'll include him too. He's not to old to like getting stuff in the mail...

?? for you duck people... 3 of the 4 hatched last night. The last one pipped some time last night. Given how long it took the others to go from pip to zip to hatch, I'm thinking I would like to take the babies out of the hatcher, but I don't want to compromise the remaining egg... Wet paper towel throw in as I scoop the babies out??

I keep telling myself I want to take them out because they are going to need food and water, but it is really because I want to play with them and I can't get good pictures while they are still in the bator!!

Yeah, I don't think we'll limit to 12 and under if there are a few older kids who would enjoy it... I'll just pair them up together. Hopefully even with different genders, the three interests will really help people out with picking stuff.

Yes, I would totally take them out of the hatcher and just replace the humidity somehow, like the wet paper towel! Congrats!

I did it!! I took them out... I'll get pics later. They are so freakin' cute!!! But they are way clumsier than chicken babies. Is that normal?
