I do NOT mark my boxes Hatching eggs anymore and I ask people sending me eggs not to either. I just mark it FRAGILE on all 4 sides and arrows for the right side up.

I think if it says eggs there are a FEW members of the USPS who will throw them just for the heck of it. If it is just Fragile, it is not interesting or tempting to them.

I have received 100s of packages of PM items marked FRAGILE and never had any box damage or item damaged over the years. Marking it EGGS seems to bring out the "devil" in some people.

I have learned my lesson with shipping. I label them "cookies from grandma" and put a couple of stickers on the box. You know something your grandmother would put on...kittens, puppies, bunnies, et.

They arrive great every time.

To clear up any misconceptions.

Each egg was wrapped in bubble wrap and taped shut. Those 6 eggs were placed in a carton and taped and taped and taped (sonew you are so funny) shut. That carton was then placed inside a small box and wedged around it was newspaper. The box was actually bulging it was so stuffed. It was also taped shut. The small box was placed inside a larger box and padded with more newspaper. The outer box was then repeatedly taped and it was solid. No jiggling, no wiggling, no sliding around when you picked it up.

The damage was not due to packing. The cardboard was not flimsy. The PO was careless and inconsiderate and morons and idiots and disregarded the importance we place on our packages.

Some of the eggs survived all of that and are in the incubator now. If for some reason nothing hatches...I will buy some more from sonew when the weather won't be such a factor.

I have had great luck with my packages. I always have people mark 'hold for pickup' and give them my phone number. My PO is great about it and I'm on a first name basis with Joe, who holds all my packages for me and even let's me come get them on weekends. Really nice guy. I bring him cookies and stuff a lot to show my gratitude.

I have the best luck marking "fragile- LIVE EMBRYOS" and not noting that they are chicken eggs anywhere. Just live embryos. I think your average postal worker does not think of chicken eggs as embryos. I think it maybe makes them wonder if they are HUMAN! Being shipped with dry ice or something. Lol. I don't know of any person no matter how disgruntled who would try to damage someones chances of having a baby. That would be just totally heartless.

Anyway, just my findings.

The broken eggs that I got that smelled rotten were shipped on Monday and I didn't get them until Saturday. This was shipped Priority Mail. That is the fault of the USPS.

I thought it was pretty clear from the pictures that the eggs were packed well. That box didnt look flimsy to me. I'm sure natalie knows how to pack a box of eggs. To blame her is ridiculous.

Especially when emmalynn has said herself they were packaged very well. I have also gotten fresh eggs that a couple had cracked and they were rotten and stinky and gross and this was in april I think. I know the eggs were viable cause some hatched perfectly fine. In this heat it could definitely happen. The PO is to blame here. There are some good ones(my carrier brings them very carefully to my door) but there are obviously those who play kickball with the boxes. I dont care if I mail eggs or something else like a jacket. I still dont want it kicked and thrown around.

We are paying these people. They need to get their head out of their behinds!!!! IMHO

but can any of the plant experts identify this vine for me?? It has small clusters of a purple berry like flower here and there and doesn't spread real far and only climbs about 2" tall.

It is just a weed, we don't have it growing anywhere else just popped up in the bed last year, died off over winter but has come back. The base point of the main stem seems to be pretty thick and thins and vines. What is be some form of a poison ivy, shumack, oak or something.... that would be my luck as it is growing in my front bed of the house.

ps- we also have some strawberries that popped up with it last year as well along with an unknown tree at the moment... We basically got a free landscape bed.

I stopped writing fertile eggs a few years ago I write "FRAGILE-HANDLE WITH CARE PLEASE" With please underlined and a smiley face next to it-then I make stars all around that note. I have always had good luck that way-This is the first I have heard of a crushed box from me:( Jim pmd me and he had 3 broken eggs from my EE eggs:( THAT WAS IN THE PRIORITY MAIL BOX...these are firsts for me:( dang PO !!!

emmalynn, Obviously good things were already offered this week or so many of you would not already be out of swaps!!

I was too busy to swap all week so had to wait til today and tomorrow for mine.

As Scarlett would say," Tomorrow is another day!" And my addition to that quote is, " and if it is not, then none of this will matter anyway!!!!""""

I got a free 55 gallon barrel full of starter feed today from a job i was at. Thanks to tyson worker who misguided the feed shute from one bin to the next. I was glad to shovel it in the barrel from the ground on my lunch break. Guess this was my lucky week.
