I usually hatch like that too. My last batchof quail i got 1 roo and 5 hens, which is the exact ratio for a pen. it was like winning the egg lottery.

I have a banty EE hen, actually I have 4 but one is laying for sure. The others... I am not positive WHERE they are laying if they are since they free range.

Can you possibly divulge a little more info on vent sexing or take pictures next time of a male and a female. I really want to try it. I tried it today with a chick that was a few hours old and I could see little pearl bumps on either side of the opening. I'm not sure if I had it open wide enough? I tried videos on youtube but it's just hatcheries and they're working crazy fast so I can't tell what they're seeing. Would be nice to have someone who does it reliably to give tips.

Lemme get you the pics, I use a stand magnifier for quil, but on chicks, I don't need it.

In the first pic, you'll see a cockrel, if the vent was a clock face, the "bump" is at 7:30. To expose the vent I GENTLY streach the tail toward the back, which opens the vent (no squeezing, it's not a squeeky toy).

Second pic is a hen, no bump, just the slit. After the first handful, you'll be getting it. I've had ones that are clearly male, some that are clearly female (bumpless) and once in a while i'll get a ? chick. those i come back a few days later to look.

Hi people!

I'm okay.

Just tired. Got an MRI today that showed a whole lot of nothing. All my tests are normal. The only thing they found was slightly low blood pressure. Besides being about 10 lbs too fat and needing to work out more, I'm really healthy. At least they seem to believe me and don't think I am making it up. I guess being dizzy wouldn't be so bad if I weren't extremely sensitive to motion sickness. I can't do 3D movies, virtual reality, or read in the car without getting really nauseated at least. It really sucks. I slept all day yesterday I was so tired!!!

Anyway, those who I still owe swaps to, I will get those out today if possible, and if not then tomorrow. I'm not supposed to drive on the meds they put me on so I need the fiancee to drive me and he is very busy.
