Yoda I hope you get to feeling soon. I had that for the first time ever a few years ago and it's horrible. Unfortunately I had to work. It was tax season and I was the only one in the office so I couldn't take off.

As for my day it wasn't that great either. We've had cold rain a few days and today it turned into sleet then snow. When I went to feed I had 1 hen lethargic and a red legged partridge near death. All 3 A frame pens where soaked and the feed in one got soaked. A new leak started in the sizzle pen. And my Orph pullets have worms.

Found out the hard way. When I was putting out straw for them to cuddle up in I almost put my hand in it.

So First I had to tend to the too cold and dying birds then out to put out straw on the floors of all the pens and covered the A frames up with thick clear plastic. Another bird ended up in the house this evening. She was too cold. The roo has really been taking alot of piggy back rides leaving the hens bare. With no feathers they got cold despite the aprons they had on. So the sisters are in the house under a heat lamp on the porch. The partridge didn't make it, he died. I got to him too late.

By the time I did all that I had forgotten about the worms. So i'll worm them tomorrow. I wormed everybody in the fall like I always do but apparently the orphs needed an extra treatment. I've never seen worms in any of my birds poo before so it was a shock.

The wet weather is suppose to stop and warm up to a whopping low 40's before noon. A heat wave.

I've already had 1 pullet that got sick last week then another I heard sneezing. So everybody in that pen is on antibiotics. This is not a good sign of how this winter is gonna go.

I wormed my birds in July...found worms in Oct, and had to worm again. I re wormed them 10 days later for good measure. Enough of this nonsense !
So far so good.

for good weather & quick recovery for your birds.

Snow and freezing temps, yuck. I put on another heat lamp in the barn. I ran around town all day, shipped eggs, sold three dozen hatching eggs, came back in the dark and snow to try and feed the critters, I still need to go take the goats more hay. Wrapping more eggs. Need to go check the Bator again. Got to go to town again tomorrow . Hope it warms up. Sorry about your chicken, Marie.

Thans Deb but it was a partridge, not a partridge silkie but a red legged partridge. He lost his mate in the summer just before we moved to a coon or possum. Most likely a possum and lost my male gambel quail the next day. This fella that died today has been alone for about 4 months. I'm sure he died from hypothermia. Poor fella. I thought he was protected where he was. I have the grow pen, and quail and him under a lean-to out of the weather. I didn't know they didn't tolerate the cold weather. The grow pen has a heat lamp and I have a light hanging for the JB's so they will lay as much as I can get them to right now. It's not really for heat. Everybody has hay in their pens now so I hope it'll be better. Moe and Curly are in the house cuddled up together in an incubator with a heat lamp on them. They got too cold today being half naked and all. Poor babies. They got special treatment since their smooth skinned friend messed up and let them get cold in the first place.

Your eggs should make it out in the mail tomorrow. I'll send you your DC# when I get them packed up.
