Well, and the "Days of our Lives" continue...... So you know how the neighbor called the Arkansas Poultry Commission on me and they came out and determined I was allowed to have chickens and that I was not running a LARGE chicken operation.
Well they came back out yesterday because the neighbor called the court house and said I was burning dead chickens and wood chips with chicken poop on it. So I asked him what was I suppose to do with the chips. He said to bury them or bag them up and send them out with the trash man. He also said he heard the Environmental protection agency was asked to come out too. He was real nice and said we had nothing to worry about. He said 95% of his ride out/complaints are neighbor squabbles.
So after that visit, I went to the court house and went to the county Judges office. They said I was allowed chickens. They admitted they got an anonymous call about the burn pile. So I said how many chickens am I allowed, Can I have goats, turkey, peacocks? They said yes, yes, yes, and as many as I want. SOOOO, I left the court house and bought a second turkey. Bahahahaha
Well he was right, the EPA came out today and looked at me chickens. He loved them and then he looked at my burn pile. He even took a picture of it. He gave us some paperwork that said no burning anything that did not grow on or property. Trees, leaves, grass. No boxes, paper, wood chips.
OKAY, I am good with that. So he said he had no problem with anything he saw and even commented that I have the cleanest backyard chicken operation he has seen in a long time. He too agreed for me to bag up my wood chip litter and have the garbage man put it in the county dump. He did say I could compost it but it had to maintain a certain temp and I had to make sure the flies did not get out of hand. WHAT????
THAT IS NOT HAPPENING? LOL I will stick to bagging it.
So after 2 visits from the Arkansas Poultry Commission, 1 visit from the EPA and a thumbs up from the County Judges office and the Sheriff, I feel like I may need a few more new coops after all. I do think it is a shame it has come to this. They did say that the has the right to call and complain every day. But that they learn who the repetitive complainers are.
So tonight I am burning some chickens. lol on the Barbecue grill.....Yummmm You know to be the town Optometrist, they are going to ruin their reputation with the local sheriff's off, County Judge's office, EPA and Arkansas Poultry Commission. I am scheduled for the NPIP course and my chickens are due for testing soon. Soon as they all become 4 months old... Ahhhhhh the joys and drama chickens have brought to my life....I think they will all get meal worms for being so good!
