I just had to vent here for a second......went to my village meeting last night and someone asked if we could have chickens......the board did not even talk about it just said "We don't have a health department and our county wont do it so no, because we can not control the deseases that chickens have" Now I have something to work with. I am going to research that till I make them puke chickens LOL........I WILL HAVE MY CHICKENS.........
Does anyone have the health department inspect their chickens?
What do you think if I would agree to go around and check on the people with chickens and help them make it right for free?
( ulterier motive for that is so I can have mine) they did say one person here had 16 birds in a 4x4 pen with no water......that is not right.....but I can be nice and help people without making them mad.
And what deseases are the talking about?
I just built a swing set next to my chicken pen and my grandson will swing and watch chickens for hours LOL I can't just take that away from him. OH and I just got 10 baby chicks LOL
Any Ideas how to change their minds without maing them mad

Do you have an animal control? Perhaps it could fall under their jurisdiction and if you don't, well there you go, no one is controlling the diseases that dogs and cats have.

We have a program with Perdue University Ag. They send you a kit and you send back eggs and they do a serum test for all kinds of chicken diseases and then they send you a report and a "bio security is for the birds t-shirt" the program is free. Maybe you local University has something similar? I found out from a 4-h mom that gave me a flyer about it.

Well that just sucks!!! Didnyou sell your bator?? I have a few friends who are hashing it out if its not gone yet...Id have to get it for them and bring it to NH to meet them for the chickenstock....< i hope you sold it! Lol

No I haven't sold it yet.... need to though so I can get the apartment for me and my daughter. Japs just finished hatching in it. So will move them out, clean it up and shut it off.

I also have a 7x14x6 dog metal chain link kennel too that I will be posting on craigslist. $150 if you are interested.

Here not so regulated, but we have a state inspector that comes out and tests our birds for pyllorium (spelling) and then inspects the incubators, and general area the poultry is in.
its free here in NY and done by the state agricultrual and markets. maybe your state has something similar.
My birds all tested negative and I only had to get them tested once a year unless i brought new birds into my flock.

Have you guys (who have or have had Horses) ever washed blankets and such in regular wash powders? DH and I uncovered a tote full of blankets and one of them is an expensive Shires polar fleece. I have no more horse wash stuff. So I was thinking I'd wash them in regular Gain.

Gain should be fine. You only really need to worry if you are washing waterproof blankets and making sure to re-waterproof them.
