WHAT YA GOT SWAP Chat Thread

Sadly, I report today that one of my co-workers received confirmation that her home was one of the homes lost to the wildfire on Tuesday. Very sad as she has a sister that was evacuated twice for the wildfire near Boulder and has been sitting on pins and needles for weeks over that. She is a single women with no children and lived alone so this is very tough on her. My other co-workers home was not damaged but had homes across the street that were a total lost.

Oh, that's such a shame. The rangers are working so hard and it's just overwhelming. I've been following the new and can't even begin to imagine the horror and helplessness.

I feel deeply for those effected by the fires. This morning they said they were so big you could see them from space.

I killed a possum in one of my coops last week. I thought I was done. Another hen disappeared last night. I am fixing the electric fence and setting live traps today.

I am so sorry for your loss.

My DH caught a small raccoon trying to crawl into the roof vent of my greenhouse/coop last night! He thinks he got a bullet into it, but it got away. I guess I have to finally put the hardware cloth over the vents now. I would wait until it's 100+ degrees outside to do it!

Good thing I have those wonderful neck coolers - they work GREAT!

The rest of you guys need to stalk Kimisfishing to get some of them for this heatwave!
Stay cool Walli! Drink lots of fluids.

I've been sick as all holy heck so I have missed the news (Upper respatory and sever pinkeye. The whole side of my face swollen and my right eye swollen shut. A tear duct got clogged by the pink eye which caused the elephant head look of 2012....). I really feel bad for these people loosing everything they own. I pray they can get all this under control soon and no more homes are lost.

We are at 102 so far today. I hope everyone is taking care of themselves and staying hydrated. I put out fresh frozen 20 oz bottles in my houses a bit ago, added ice to all the waterers and have the sprinklers set up to be turned on in a minute. (going to run them so that they basically "water" the roof's of the houses to cool them. We have well water so it is always ice cold.)

CPL- They are frizzled cochins with a silkie rooster over them. Glad you got such a great hatch rate!

Sorry to hear about your co-worker, Ann.

Are the fires getting under control yet? We are so dry here that I hate to think of all the crazy people who will still play with their fireworks next week.

Seeing your chat thread is actually what prompted me to join the swap. You all seem too sweet!

I had planned on putting my swap page together this weekend, I got lots of cool stuff. But thats not going to be happening because one of our neighbors called the home owner (we rent) and told him we have chickens living in our house! So he is coming to do a walk through so we are working to get the house pristine. We definitely don't have chickens in our house btw! All he would have to do is look in the back pasture and see the 630 sq ft. run and home made coop to know that. And we got approval for chickens and any other animals we want from the landlord so if he approved us without talking to the owner this is so not our fault.
Ugh sorry for the rant. It's just so stupid!

Oh and the really unfortunate thing is that I have my first hatch in lockdown right now, scheduled to hatch this weekend. I am considering quickly unplugging and moving the incubator to the garage. Bad idea? It's in the basement. Bad timing.

if you think it is going to be a problem, then put it in a closet. I'm sure they are not going to inspect you down to the floorboards. I say that, but stranger things have happened. I used to think badly about a woman down the road with chickens in her house. She also has 50 dogs (everything from a great dane to a micro sized dog), a horse living in a dirt yard as big as my house, pigs, cow, etc.... but with her it was mostly always "How can she handle the Rooster crowing", and "Good gosh! How does she keep up with it all?"
I have had chickens in my house. I do have a brooder of chicks in the house. One of the old farmer men at the Co-Op was telling me about when he was little. They had no windows up in the spring or summer and the chickens used to just come in and out as they pleased.

I am in DESPERATE need of Turkens & Showgirls/Bowties. For some unknown reason everyone keeps asking for those "so ugly they are cute" things...LOL Anyone have reasonably priced eggs or want to swap for some of my Silkie eggs from my SQ girls

You need to PM Bhep(and I'll go get her too) She is the QUEEN of silkie/sizzle/showgirl/turken ugly chicks. A lot of them are EE too so that always makes for an interesting cross. LOL
