if you think it is going to be a problem, then put it in a closet. I'm sure they are not going to inspect you down to the floorboards. I say that, but stranger things have happened. I used to think badly about a woman down the road with chickens in her house. She also has 50 dogs (everything from a great dane to a micro sized dog), a horse living in a dirt yard as big as my house, pigs, cow, etc.... but with her it was mostly always "How can she handle the Rooster crowing", and "Good gosh! How does she keep up with it all?"
I have had chickens in my house. I do have a brooder of chicks in the house. One of the old farmer men at the Co-Op was telling me about when he was little. They had no windows up in the spring or summer and the chickens used to just come in and out as they pleased.

My granny used to tell me that.... growing up they used to feed their chickens by raking scraps directly off of their kitchen tables.... and sweeping it through the gaps in the floor boards... about an inch gap in between the floor boards. She said they could see the chickens running under the house.

You need to PM Bhep(and I'll go get her too) She is the QUEEN of silkie/sizzle/showgirl/turken ugly chicks. A lot of them are EE too so that always makes for an interesting cross. LOL

I sent groups cut of shoots and a clushter cut down to the root I would suggest clipping off the very end when it gets there and applying the rooting hormone or whatever they call it. Good luck From what I read its a slow process.

I have a question. I am having coon issues and it has killed 6 of my 10 babies. That being said, 2 of the 4 that are * alive* have medical issues. One has one wing missing with some exposed bone and the other has head trama and 1 eye missing and 1 wing is severley damaged and hanging off. They are eating and drinking as best as I can see and they are walking around. Now the question.....when *if* they get big enough to go in the big girl pen what do I do? Can they live with the others? My oldest hens do bully my youngest so I am worried. Or should I just cull them now incase they are in pain?

First so sorry you are having these troubles. I would be sitting in my barn with my .22 waiting for them. Second They will most likely die from there wounds. Maybe infection but, it sounds like they are pretty bad. If they survived I would be shocked. Only you can make the call to cull them. If they do make it, it would depend on your birds if they liked them or if they got along with them or not.

Hope you catch them coons. They are crafty little fellows. I had to sit in my barn for many nights killing them off until my dogs got big enough to do the job for me. Good Luck

If it where me I would cull. It would be worse to die slowly from an infection or be killed by one of those other hens later on. I would be in pain if it where me. Animals are tougher than us whimpy humans but pain is pain. If they do survive are you prepared to give them the special attention they're gonna need. The decision is yours to make but if you decide to cull, do it as soon as possible instead putting if off.

I'm sorry your having to go thru this and sorry your babies are too. That coon will just come back. I would also be waiting for it when it did and it wouldn't leave on it's own 4 feet like it arrived. An old aunt of mine used to make coon with mustard gravy. Sounds gross but it's delicisious.
