Sorry to hear about your co-worker, Ann.

Are the fires getting under control yet? We are so dry here that I hate to think of all the crazy people who will still play with their fireworks next week.

Is anyone interested in some Silver Appleyard duck eggs? I have 8 that need to go or I will set them myself! Make me an offer, if you are interested!
Thanks everyone for their kind thoughts and prayers. Thankfully, my co-worker does have insurance, however she told me yesterday that all she was able to get out of the house before evacuating was a small suitcase of clothes and her important papers. She had less than a hour to get out and she said she really never thought that she would lose her home. I think this was the thought of most that were evacuated and thankfully most were right and are returning to their homes that were not damaged. The people who have homes that did not burn in the Mountain Shadows area will still be out of their homes for weeks before it will be deemed safe for them to return.

The news conference this morning said the fire is 30% contained. They said this afternoon will be a trial to see if the containment lines hold as winds are expected. Let's just hope for low wind speeds and some moisture. It appears that the worst concern is still for the north side of the fire which is near the Air Force Academy but they say that depending on the winds it could go in any direction.

Hoping all in Florida are starting to dry out. Mother Nature can be very trying.

We lived in California for 40 years and had been evacuated due to fires a few times. We had only time to load the horses cats and dogs we had to leave the parrots and chickens and other animals behind. Very nerve wracking. Now we are in Indiana and we have traded earthquakes and fires for tornadoes and flooding.

Yesterday we had a severe storm it blew our old tv antennae tower down. Luckily it missed everything including the house, parrots, dogs , pool and us. We do need a new roof unfortunately it did not take out the old roof. ;)

I feel for everyone with all the natural disasters this week.

We got temps up in the 100's and it's very hard on us all. I keep gallon icecream buckets, gallon milk jugs and water bottles in the deep freeze and I hand them out around noon everyday and swap them for more in the afternoon. Then go out in the evening and collect them up and back in the freezer they go. It takes me 1 1/2 hours just to swap the water for ice. Not including feeding or cleaning. I wish I could let them all out but the roosters don't get along plus I don't want the colors to get mixed. I have the silkies separated by color,

I'm going to need a Chicken diaper too.... I came home from going to the bank and the stores for food, feed, etc and my spangle rooster who we found out later had been fought, cannot hardly breathe and his whole face is dark purple. I plunged him into a bucket of cold well water (without thinking), he is in the house now.... He can breathe just not well. Gasping and not wanting to move much other then to throw the random shaving out of the cage. So if any of you guys make them, or have friends who do... please PM me a price and an email address. Need a Bantam size.

Hey A, they got them here, http://www.louisescountrycloset.com/diapers-1/ but I was hoping someone on BYC could swap with me for 1 or 2.

Got my ceramic chicken and dog sweater from Pauletta today. How cute! My dog, Spock, loves his sweater and modeled it even though it's in the 90's. That dog loves to dress up! Now I have to hide it till winter or he'll stroke out.

Patty, do you have house chickens now??
