WHAT YA GOT SWAP Chat Thread

Thanks for all the reviews! I got a good flea shampoo today and I am planning to use it every 10 or so days (somewhere I read about a flea's life cycle that it takes 10 days for an egg to hatch and if you wash every week and a half it should kill the cycle?) and I got some Advantage. Is the Trifexis available at the vet and is it a pill or a treat-like kind of thing like the heartworm meds? I'm going to vacuum daily and comb him out daily until I don't get anything. Hopefully that will work for now until I can get him in at the vet... I just think this weather is not helping matters! I have never seen them so bad...

I agree with a comment that was made about this swap group. It's not like anything I've ever seen. You are all so caring and kind and it's so nice to be able to talk with you. I know I haven't been totally active with the swaps and chats, but I am thankful for you all!

Yeah, the light thing is a good idea. You can also put down 20 mule team borax (fairly cheap) in your carpets and rugs to kill the eggs and fleas. Be diligent cuz you're right on with the every 10 days thing! You have to get trifexis or comfortis at the vet. Comfortis if you're already treating for heartworms with another product. Trifexis for everything-fleas & heartworms and whatever else it kills. Both are expensive but comfortis is a little less if you already have heartworm prevention. Can't get trifexis if your dog doesn't have or get the heartworm test.

Luckily I have hardwood and tile everywhere but the bedrooms, and he's usually locked out of those (except our bedroom, but how do I put a light in there when I'm sleeping? I'll see if hubs minds...). Think the light would work on the couch? I know that's his favorite cuddle place aside from beside me in our bedroom. I just hate to spray all those chemicals in the house, especially with two young kiddos. I have some DE... I will dust him with that tomorrow after his bath and flea treatment. Poor guy! We had fleas this past winter and I thought we were in the home stretch. I guess I have been slacking!

Thanks for the tips!!

i would put it where ever the dog spends the most time.

Like Anderson8505 said above, trifexis is more expensive than comfortis because it has a heartworm prev. added (2 in 1 pill). If your dog hasnt been to the vet in while, i suggest you take it with you to make sure you get the right weight size. If you want to use trifexis, he needs to have a negative heartworm test in the past 12 months, just like with other heartworm preventatives.
We have alot of problems with heartworms around here because of all the mosquitoes, we had 3 dogs in this week for heartworkm treatment, 2 where from the same family. We've also seen a few cats with them, only takes a few (like 3-5) works to kill a cats, dogs can have a lot more. We had someone bring in a dog that died on the way, opened it up, it almost had more heartworms than organs :/ . They where in the veins, heart, liver, lungs, etc. Thats the worst case i've ever seen. We're using ProHeart6 alot now(now that its come back out), its a shot that last 6 months. Esp if the owner is forgetful or the dog is evil or hard to pill. Dog has to be between 1 and 7 years old to start on it. Its just for heartworms.

Anyone heard from Marie? We just got our power back on after it went out Thursday afternoon. I think I lost all my Guinea eggs from the swaps, I am pretty sure all the funky eggs I got from Beth are gone too. Lowest temp the incubator got was 77.5. I only saw blood rings in 8 though, so maybe the last few are okay.... I dunno. I candled the Guinea's and there was no movement in any of them, and they got cold. So sad! Those were due to hatch Wednesday and they were a gift to my Husband from the kids for Fathers day.(
Lost all the freezer food we have been working hard to put up. The part that really griped my butt, besides loosing the food and eggs, was that the people on the main road had power. We could see it.
Since we run off well water the pump was out too. No showers... We had to buy water for the birds and to flush the toilets. DH is looking at generators.
