Thanks so much. Ok sick about it I wrapped him up in soft tissue named him sweet prince and put him in w ziploc bag I thought I would throw up. I don't mind raising or trying to raise special needs babies but you can't fix what was wrong with prince. I has so shocked how long he was hanging on his brain was bleeding even . It's crazy the little ones with nothing much wrong but seem to give up the someone like prince who should die quickly but fight so hard.

Got my packages out today. Will send out DCs tonight. And bought some new goodies for the swap. I am out of swaps so I have time to post the pics.
WHAT a hot day today....Shouldn't complain....at least it's not flooding or tornados, right? LOL

So, I bought 3 bags of feed today and good gravy the prices went up but I filled the 5 PVC feeders up and I want to see how long it lasts before they empty them. Still have 1/2 bag left. They are 5 ft long with almost a 3 ft feeding trough. I want to say it lasted almost 3 weeks last time. So nice not to have to go out there and refill those 3-5 gallon feeder and waterers. Wanted to post I did get the Mary Kay make up and Jersey Giant eggs in today.

Too hot to play outside so I better get started on my chicken lasagna. Hope everyone had a great day and very sorry to hear about your sweet prince Gabrielle

Ok, so what do you all do with all the chicks you are hatching out?? I see some of you claiming eggs all the time, plus on the 24hr auction thread... do you have local people that you sell the chicks to, do you have an ongoing place where you brood them that isn't in your house?? Just curious

I personally have many local BYCers PM me and I have sold at a local swap. I also have a sister who gets many of them. But the most rewarding was when I donated to the local 4H.

I know how you feel gabrielle. I had one hatch whose yolk sack was not absorbed in the least. The whole thing was hanging out and this one hatched all by itself and in record time! It was amazing and then I saw the problem. It was heartbreaking. I've been able to help out a little bit if their yolk sacks are protruding a little, but this one was all the way out and the abdomen was almost completely closed.

I'm wondering if this is a result of the food I'm feeding since I moved here. I had many many chicks with either leg problems or yolk sack problems this year. I've never had these problems before! I just don't know what to think.

I hatch for myself.

Well truthfully I am addicted to hatching. So far I have been able to sell off everything I don't want to keep. I have a 4-h kid who broods some for me and sells them and we split the money.

I have had about 20 people this Spring Summer who's flocks were wiped out by predators so I pretty much sold everything possible.

I even had to buy eating eggs today, lol.

Then there is the 4-h kids I help out and friends who want different chickens and customers.

And I of course change my mind very 5 seconds on which breeds I want to keep.

I'm retired so I have lots of time for chickens.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Now as as the rest of the peeps here, they are just nuts

For the 2 of you that I got swaps from today, If you are doing the august egg swap, It is fine with me if you want to wait and see who your partners are, I am in x4 so if you would get me you could combine the shipping....just a thought since I am in no hurry...

Hows your humidity? Are you having a problem with incubator and broody hatched chicks (if you do both)?

So tonight DH wants to go mow at the farm. I tell him it's too hot, he's too tired, it's not a good idea. Of course he loads up the lawn mower in the back of the truck and off we go anyways despite my protests . Now I have to hang out with MIL till he's done.

Down the road we go and he starts lecturing me about buying more chickens today, yada yada yada then devine intervention happens as the lawn mower rolls off the back of the truck just 50 feet after we cross the highway. Dh slams on the brakes, throws open the door and jumps out to inspect the damage. Luckily there is NONE just a tiny scratch on the hood. We get it loaded back in the truck and on our way dh is obviously flustered and relieved the mower is ok. I turn to him and say "so I guess the chicken lecture is over"

He then indicated thru hand signals that I am #1

Whew got out of that one by the seat of my pants.
