That is hilarious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But I am glad all is ok. Yup, it's hard to complain about chicken when stuff is falling off the back of a truck. Happened to my husband too. But with a $30,000.00 motorcycle on a trailer he forgot to put the lock in the trailer. Bahahhahahahahahahaha. Bad thing is several people witnessed it and gave us a 4 out of 10 and cheered in front of a hotel. Thankfully it missed on coming traffic and came to a dead stop. I just covered my face in pain and let him get out and load in it correctly so we could drive off. Yup, it was a weekend to remember and I am no longer the nagging wife about safety. (But I secretly check the lock before we drive off.)

So tonight DH wants to go mow at the farm. I tell him it's too hot, he's too tired, it's not a good idea. Of course he loads up the lawn mower in the back of the truck and off we go anyways despite my protests

. Now I have to hang out with MIL till he's done.

Down the road we go and he starts lecturing me about buying more chickens today, yada yada yada

then devine intervention happens as the lawn mower rolls off the back of the truck just 50 feet after we cross the highway. Dh slams on the brakes, throws open the door and jumps out to inspect the damage. Luckily there is NONE just a tiny scratch on the hood. We get it loaded back in the truck and on our way dh is obviously flustered and relieved the mower is ok. I turn to him and say "so I guess the chicken lecture is over"

He then indicated thru hand signals that I am #1

Whew got out of that one by the seat of my pants.

Hows your humidity? Are you having a problem with incubator and broody hatched chicks (if you do both)?

Well now... that would be a deciding factor wouldn't it? I didn't intentionally do both but the girls insisted! No problems with the eggs under broodies except that I lost ONE to being too dry. All my previous experience in hatching was defeated for the most part this year. We moved to a dryer climate but I tried to keep the humidity the same as what the incubator manufacturer told me. Then in the later hatches, after somebody told me about the "dry" method, I tried letting the humidity get lower and it seemed to help. The little chickie I mentioned with the totally unabsorbed yolk was the very last chick to hatch for the year. It took a day longer than the others but it hatched really fast and on its own. So, maybe its not feed related. We have very low humidity here, 5% but I think my humidity was too high for most of my hatches!

I hatch for myself.
Well truthfully I am addicted to hatching. So far I have been able to sell off everything I don't want to keep. I have a 4-h kid who broods some for me and sells them and we split the money.
I have had about 20 people this Spring Summer who's flocks were wiped out by predators so I pretty much sold everything possible.
I even had to buy eating eggs today, lol.
Then there is the 4-h kids I help out and friends who want different chickens and customers.
And I of course change my mind very 5 seconds on which breeds I want to keep.
I'm retired so I have lots of time for chickens.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Now as as the rest of the peeps here, they are just nuts

Haha, that's funny=) I have been delaying buying an incubator primarily because I know I would be the same!!, hehe... Had chicks when I was younger, but always used the broodies to hatch out chicks... If I were to get an incubator and started going crazy like you guys, I need to figure out in advance what to do with those fuzzy butts.... I love the idea of helping out the 4-H kiddos.. Sounds like I need to check into that more!!

Sorry about those problems with hatching chicks, I need to do lots more reading before I dive into that, it would make me feel horrible to have that happen to the chicks!

Oh, and loved the story about the lawnmower, too funny!

I cant ctach up with you people!!! IVE been so swamped for the past two weeks with life...I need calgon!!!!

I have 3 batches of TOLBUNT mixed huge eggs I can do side trades on...or 1 great side trade for all of them...The girls seem like they are on laying crack feed...I had around 24+ or 3 shipments I can split up

What Im looking for is canning goodies...mixes really...or other neat canning things
Also looking for a scale to weigh food...I was just going to buy one last week but then thought maybe you guys might have one youndont use?? Im sick of myncanning recipies saying 3 lbs of this or 8 lbs of that!!! Isnt there a conversion chart for all fruits and veggies into weights???? Lol

Ohhhh they are soooo cute!!!

Nelson is the silkie Serama pen. Nelson and 1 hen are from June (silkieseramas.com) 2 hens are from Jerry.

The OB & Stuart pen are the same. I just named him Stuart one day. That is where the possible orange barred can come from. They are the smallest birds maybe A's and they all have numbered SCNA leg bands, I don't know if that means anything special. I got them from Randy Hall.

Jake is the tri colored frizzled Pixiechickens roo, from Juliette.

Lobo is from Laura @ castle delight.seramas spangled roo over smooth and frizzled hen.

Professor is blue barred over MF smooth hen & MF frizzled hen.

I can't wait until they feather out to see them.

Chicks are hatching all over (6 yesterday and 3 last night) but one little thing pipped a couple days ago and made it's hole bigger and bigger. Looks like it tried to zip, making it about a 1/4 turn. It just sits there, peeping. I HATE culling, so I'm so afraid of helping. Help? Leave it?
