Michelle - sorry about the soaps. Three year olds alway give stories for their mothers to tell later on in their lives. One of my kids took permanant marker to the walls in one of our rooms. I was not happy because I couldn't get it off everything so we put furniture in front of the biggest stuff. A few years later we decided to paint that room and when I was "reminded" of the pictures in marker on my wall, we decided to frame off part of the "pictures" on the wall and didn't paint over it as a reminder of where we've been in our family. Wish I was closer to give you a break - mine are all teens so I really do miss even 3 year olds.

Pauletta - prayers and hope sent your way that you will find out tomorrow what was going on with your DH. Hoping it is just dehydration or someting more simple like that. Hugs to you too!

Jim - so sorry about Spot! The loss of a pet is always so hard

I have a question about polish. Is it harder or are they harder to hatch than other breeds? I just am not having much luck. Out of 3 different hatches, I have ended up with 4 birds. I hatched other types at the same time, with much better results with them. I have an incubator now that is full of EE's, Welsummers, polish, and Ams. All are developing great, except the polish. I think since not 1 of the polish are developing this time, they must have gotten xrayed.

Just curious and wondering if some breeds are harder to hatch than others?
I have had some good luck hatching polish (my own hatch well for me) and some eggs that I got from just a few states away from me hatched well. However, I have the same problem as Jim with keeping them alive (not just my own eggs)
I am sending some out to you this week and hope they hatch and live for you.

I did have 2 silver laced doing really well, then I got up one day last week and 1 was dead. It was flying around the brooder the night before, didn't even see that coming. I have one splash from Pauletta that is alot older than that one, he/she lloks like a rock star!

Can you tell by the way their crest looks if they are male/female? That one looks like a poofy bowl on its head. The silver laced one has spikes sticking straight up. I love them! Will have to take pics tomorrow.

And Jim, I was gonna ask you about the Iowa blues....I looked them up today, they are pretty!

The bowl over the head is the pullet and the rock star is a cockerel.

Some people have no problem hatching Iowa Blue out while others do. I've heard a broody is the best bet for Iowa Blue eggs.

I have a perfect broody for that. I think she is permanently stuck in the broody mode. If I can make her a nest separated from the other nest hoggers, I might have to get some from you. She's a great mom, if the others leave her nest alone!

Well, that makes it easy to tell what is what on the polish. Thanks!

I think this has been a rough year for everyone in one way or another. I am grateful to have such wonderful friends and family and my awesome BYC family. Many hugs out to all of y'all too and I am sorry for your losses of your sweeties. That was a lovely horse.

Anyone interested in a side swap for pheasants or guineas?
I have strawberry syrup ( organic) a zillion quail eggs, siklie and showgirls eggs, pp, etc etc etc. I also have a fair bit of llama yarn undyed in a few natural colors. If your local I have chicks, Marans, silkies and showgirls, Older olive eggers. If youa re not too cold I can also send Black Solider flies and directions on how to make the carrier thingies to harvest the babies, they are great chicken treats.. or i could figure out how to send a mealworm starter kit, those are going well too... we are Bug queens around here! I also have a ton of beanie babies from when they were popular but not uber popular, and 2 libraries full of books.
