Also make sure you know how to ship babies and eggs if you are offering them. Eggs is easier chicks take some research and in this weather some heat.

Much warmer here today

. Woke up to 16 degrees (higher than yesterdays high of 14) and it is now a balmy 21. Much happier about that temperature! It has been snowing off and on, but I like the snow just not the frigid temps

*Forgot to mention that I received my books from farmerchef yesterday (Thanks for the extras). I will have plenty of entertainment for after Christmas when life slows down here.

Coldupnorth, your weather sounds a lot like mine!! We had a really hard cold spell a bit before Thanksgiving and was then SUPER motivated to get my water heaters done, I HATE dumping out crocks, using boiling water to free the wateres, etc, which is what I did as a teenager when I had chickens... grrr... fortunatetly, my DH is handy and we made 3 of them in about an hour, phew!! no more frozen water, what a relief!

Can you share how you make your water heaters? I am currently using hot water to unfreeze water in their rubber pans and its a pain. The plastic waterers are put away for the season. Guessing you need electricity and I don't have that in all the coops, which is why I'm using hot water and rubber feeders.

It's a pain but every night when I close up for the evening, I collect all uneaten food and water. Waterers are stored upside down as are the feed dishes. This is all so I'm not feeding the local mouse population.

Anyway, as big a pain as it is, it's not as bad as trying to get ice out the waterers.

The rubber dog bowls are great we just ip them upside down and stomp once or twice and all ice comes out!!! Refill! Which reminds me I need 6 more!! Haha
