i have three right now but they are chicks and thinking about getting a few more just want to see what you all think of them as egg layers and how are they with other breeds of birds jw

I have several ameraucanas and have been very pleased with them. They are a calm bird and have integrated well with my flock. I love the large green eggs and they have been some of my steadiest layers

Are we talking about Easter Eggers or Ameraucanas?

(usually when Americana is spelled like such with an I, they're reffering to Easter Eggers)

Easter Eggers are quite varied, I think they're a nice addition to a flock when someone doesn't want to go looking for the pureberd version, they can be great and they can also be challenging. Personally I like "homemade" ones way better than hatchery bred ones.

Ameraucanas are just plain great though.

Wonderful personalities, never met a mean or shy one (although Silvers are known to be shy) and always love the consistent blue egg color as well as consistent plumage color, yet varied at the same time (in reference to the known color varieties) - My favorite of course would be Buff.

thats cool i had three now i have 7 of these so what colors are there of this breed i mean i am new to these kind of birds but jw wondering what colors there are out there

If yours are Easter Eggers, there's no actual "colors" with labels, just mixed colors, being that EE's are bred with only colored eggs in mind. The plumage color varies. Easter Egger females are usually brown and black, gray and brown, or white. Their legs are usually green, unlike Ameraucanas.

If yours truly are Ameraucanas (not from a hatchery or feedstore) then the recognized colors are Black, Blue, White, Splash, Lavender, Wheaten, Blue Wheaten, Brown-Red, Buff, and Silver. Lavender is not technically accepted yet but a widely recognized color.

Black, White, Buff, and Blue are solid colors, no other color but the named one on the bird.

Silver is Silver Duckwing, extremely rare.

Brown-Red is black and brown like on a Black Copper, extremely rare.

Splash is white with black or blue markings throughout the body like an appaloosa or dalmation.

Wheaten and Blue Wheaten are creamy light brown colors with black or blue on the tail and wing tips.

thats cool what if i got them from mt healthy hatchery i mean they say they lay dif color eggs but will they just wondering i have 7 all together now. well i hope they lay diff color eggs and if not its cool they look like a cool looking bird to have around

I have both EE's and Ameraucanas and they are all both great!

My EE's I ordered from My Pet Chicken and picked up at my local feedstore. I bought my Ameraucanas from a breeder and have wheaten and blue wheaten. Your chicks from Mount Healthy are EE's and will probably display a wide range of colors and personalities, which is part of the fun! Be sure to post pictures!
