I'm posting this for fun. I would like to see if their is any Chicken people that would like to tell us what their favorite breeds, what they have currently, and what they get in the future. Here are few questions to answer after taking the poll. Answering these questions will help people get to know you and your chickens.

Why do I have chickens?

Are they pets?

Do I have meat birds

Do they free-range?

What breeds do I have?

Do I want any more?

How many chickens do I have?

Do people think I'm crazy/Out of my mind?:gig:lau

I'll go first we have
4 cherry eggers
3 brahmas
2 EES
3 barred rocks
4 buff orpingtons
11 mutts/mixes
1 Australian Langshan
and hope to get more. Our goal is to sell eggs and have enough for ourselves to. We also have lots of other animals/birds like
1 Goat
6 cats
3 Dogs
14 quineas
2 Royal palm turkeys
and will be getting cows soon!
I've said enough about myself lets hear about other people.
You can speak you mind just try to be nice. I'll also tag a few people.

  • I have always wanted chickens.
  • They are pets.
  • I don’t have meat birds.
  • They do free range.
  • I only have EEs.
  • Of course I want more!!
  • I have 16 hens plus a rooster.
  • People may think I am crazy and out of my mind but I am perfectly normal. They are the crazy ones for not having chickens.

We have 9 easter eggers, 1 leghorn (Vanilla), 2 comets (Perky and Rosie), and fairly recently 2 golden laced Wyandotte (Lacy and Stacy).

We have chickens because they are entertaining and give us eggs. We are thinking of selling fertile eggs since we have a rooster.

All of our chickens free range except our Wyandotte who are currently quarantined.

Yes they are pets and no we do not have any meat birds.

I definitely want more HENS, I would think twice for getting more roosters.

I wouldn't like to think people think I am crazy.

Why do I have chickens?
It gives me a strange sense of joy to have chickens. Also, I like my meat and eggs to come from animals that don't suffer a miserable existence.

Are they pets?
Some are, some aren't. It depends on the breed and the bird's personality. I still like to watch them and make them happy even if they aren't a pet to me.

Do I have meat birds
I process excess cockerels for meat. I prefer dual purpose breeds for this reason.

Do they free-range?

I let them out of their run on occasion, such as when it's safe and dry, and the grass has had ample time to recover if they've scratched it down to dirt. I'm a suburbanite at the moment, but my yard is quite large for my area. One of these days I hope to return to the country.

What breeds do I have?

I currently have white Leghorns, RSLs, black copper Marans, black Australorps, white Cochins, a buff Brahma, white Silkies, a lavender Orpington, an Olive Egger, and several Cochin mixes. I plan to downsize soon, as I got most of my current flock from an assortment, and I'm not terribly keen some of the breeds I have.

Do I want any more?
Definitely. Just gonna have to downsize first before I add any permanent chickens. There are several breeds I'd like to raise, and some I'd like to breed if I can rig up a quiet space for some roosters. Working on my baffle walls now!

How many chickens do I have?
13 in the layer flock, 8 in the baby flock.

I wouldn't say I'm crazy, but definitely idiosyncratic. An oddball, if you will.

Why do I have chickens?

For eggs and pets.

Are they pets?

Yes.

Do I have meat birds?

No.

Do they free-range?

Part of the day.

What breeds do I have?

Currently just a bunch of mixed breeds and a cochin. I used to have a bunch of Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas but they were all roosters.

Do I want any more?

Yes. I want more Ameraucanas, CCLB, EEs, Bantam cochins, and some Orps but not buff. I think Buff Orpingtons are really ugly.

If I were to get Orps I would probably go for Lavender, Cuckoo Lavender, or silver laced.

I love breeds with extra bits of floof: beards, muffs, crests, foot fluff, etc.....

How many chickens do I have?

Currently only nine, but have raised 18 in total.

Why do I have chickens?
I have chickens because of eggs but, I have come to respects and love them as pets. I don't mind if they do not lay eggs. I will still love them.

Are they pets?
Of COURSE!!!!!

Do I have meat birds?
We had gotten 6 meat birds from Tractor Supply and we butched them last summer.
I was a mess and Couldn't help. I cried because they were my first round of chickens. We also got 5 buff orpingtons and 5 barred rocks as egg layers which we call our original flock

Do they free-range?
99.99999 percent of the time but, when I sense some animal is around the are locked up in there pen. I know not to let any animals come around because a dog came around and we though it was a stray.(it wasn't come to find out it lived down the road) and it took out 4 of our buff orpingtons and 2 barred rock we are now let with 3 barred rock from our original flock

What breeds do I have?
Too many to count

Do I want any more?
