These chickies are 9 weeks old. We're sure at least 1 is an EE and a roo (James Bond has red on his chest). The group came from a breeder friend who set some eggs for me for free. She has both EEs and Ameraucanas. She has blues and blacks and even her EEs come from Ameraucana stock. I'm not really concerned about breeding or selling them and fully understand that even though a chick may come from Ameraucana parents, if standards aren't met, they fall into the EE category like my little roo James Bond.
All their legs are slate, not a hint of green. Their muffs and beards are coming in to varying degrees. their feathering is solid black with a blue cast.

Very pretty birds

.. I am going with EE's

With the exception of James Bond. They all look like very pretty Black Ameraucana.

Now the only hurdle is egg color. True Ameraucana lay Blue Eggs. Not green, not teal blue. Although I know if you show them, unless they layed an egg in the cage, no one would ever know. I know some people do this but I do not condone it. IMO it's unethical. Good luck with your birds. Just remember they are very slow to mature and you really won't know how they will grow out till they are a year old.

A full year to really tell, breed WOW!- how about eggs? Are they slow to mature for egg laying? I love the idea of having different colored eggs. I would love to get a couple of Marans as well as some different colored EE olive eggers.

They should start laying between 25 and 28 weeks. You may never truely know the breed. They could be Ameracauna or EE's, Waiting until they grow and mature a bit more will help alot. Once they are 3 or 4 months you will see some exact details that may help crack the case!!!

I have a lavender hatched Jan 23 and 2 split black hatched Feb 6 none of them are laying yet but the lav is close as two fingers fit between pelvic bones.

Up date: My lavender ameraucana layed her first egg YESTERDAY......

I'm sorry they still look like AMERAUCANA to me. They look just like mine and I got mine from a breeder. So If you think they are EE, what are the reasons.

Congrats on your new egg layer! Because I'm not showing or breeding, EE or Ameraucana is not a huge deal. I might have to give away a roo and would like to be able to tell someone what they are getting. I do know that one roo is deffinately an EE. He has red on his chest which knocks him into that category. The chickies are changing rapidly as they are getting more beards and muffs- or at least they are more defined.Do EEs come in a solid color? I know that none solid coloring and green legs are an automatic EE grouping- what else?
