i would like to have a meat bird flock. i want a fast growing, light meat chicken. however i would like a breed that can reproduce naturally. any suggestions?

Typical meat birds don't live long enough to reproduce. If you don't butcher them within 6-12 weeks, they usually die of heart attack or their legs give out.

Do you mean you are looking for a multi-purpose flock - that can be used for meat and eggs? If so, I recommend orpington. White skinned and nice sized birds for meat. Hens lay large brown eggs.

Dual purpose? White Rocks, RIR, Barred Rocks. but they'll never be big like Cornish X.

Australorps and Delawares make good multipurpose birds.
I've got 15, 12 week old Australorp roos ready for the processor.

The fastest large breed chicken I have are the Barred Rocks. I have alot of large fowl and the top 2 are Barred's and Orpingtons. The slowest I have are these Red Shouldered Yokohama's.

Alright gang.... everyone has responded with a different breed so far.

What's the deal?
