Whats a good paying hobby..?

Well the kids and I made some yesterday and had a GREAT time.... The supplies were a little costly though. I paid 30 for a HUGE pack of clay at a craft store (16 different colors, but the packs were a little smaller than the individual ones) , the car wax was 10 bucks at kmart, all the different kinds of sandpaper was 28 bucks at the auto parts store and then I bought a bunch of extra clay molding tools. I looked for pasta machines at the thrift stores and only found one that didn't look like it had all the parts.

Then there is the cost of the kids wanting to do it and they LOVED it, but needless to say some of the younger ones don't have the skills to make sellable ones. So there goes some profit. But we had immensily pleasurable family time. How can you put a price tag on that??? Wish we had a camera of the blowing out the eggs LOL! We didn't bake them yesterday cuz I wanted to make sure they were dry so we will bake today and finish with sanding and polishing and I will post pics. One of Jessicas is going to be stunning. Awww!, I found the cutest pre made polymer cane with a CHICKEN ON IT!!!, I am totaly getting it it cames in a pce with 20 other pre-made canes for 20$!

Hey Silkie, I didn't read all the post so if this was already mentioned I apologize. - Hand painted ornaments do well and the 3x5"art cards/ACEO do well on eBay. It's easy to do and doesn't cost a fortune to make or to ship.

I made a bunch on eBay with arts & crafts but have been inactive with the art for a while. I worked an extra 20 hours a week for the better part of 2006 to stockpile for an art show so I'm taking a farmgirl veggie growin' chicken raising break. It's also nice to have my dining area back. Like most art/crafters, my house is a virtual art and craft supply/junk hole disaster area.

Silkie: Good luck on your venture. Usually hobbies don't pay, but you can try. One thing to remember though, is look at your area and see what is in demand and the type of people you are trying to sell to.

The most important part of running any business is a written 5 year business plan. You have to know where you are at, and where you are going. It can take up to 3 years to show profit, when starting a biz from scratch. A small part time biz can take longer to show real profit. At the end of 5 years, & losing money, it's time to try something else.

The only business venture I ever lost money on, was a bar. And that was because I couldn't spend the required time to babysit it enough. Be prepared to work twice as hard as you are used to when running your own business. Hard work will pay off in the end. I've been retired for over a year, & just turned 46. Good luck silkelovr.

You should get a metal detector and try dirt fishing!
You can never tell whet you might find. I can find $5 on a trip or a total $250+ if you find rings and stuff. Local parks produce weekly with new pocket change and small jewlery.
Its fun and great excersize.

I decorated an egg today for the first time using the technique taught by Little Chicken Racing team. Thank you LCRT! It was a lot of fun to do.
