Whats a good paying hobby..?

I went to 20 fairs this year & sold just over 300 eggs. My local feed store sells them, along with an Ostrich farm giftstore.

I also sell them at a few other small craft stores locally. I'm looking at selling online next year as well. In total, Ive sold around 400 art eggs in 2007 so far.

When I wholesale them, I get $20 each. At the fairs, $25 to $35. Just over $10,000 in profit so far this year. About an hour goes into each egg, so the price reflects the time involved.

Here is a site that sells eggs of comparable quality. The owner was a member at the old BYC site. This is how I got interested in making my own polymer clay eggs after seeing what she charged for hers, & how simple it was for anyone to make.

Oh My Gosh! I love, love, love those eggs! Talent, art, and chickens all together! I would love to see you make one of those eggs. It takes an hour to do one? And how do you sand them without breaking them? Those eggs are soooo cool

My family is from Hungary and they make hand painted eggs at Easter and Christmas. Their eggs are not shiny like yours. I just love yours.

That is truly the coolest thing I have ever seen and GREAT instructions too. I CAN NOT WAIT TILL TOMORROW TO TRY THIS!!!! Thanks for sharing your creativity with us!

How about Macrame? I do that for a hobby but not for profit. However, you could do some real neat stuff with it...from jewelry (chokers, wrist or friendship bands) to household stuff (Plant holders, pot holders, place mats and belts)...and you can add beads or metal to it at relatively LOW cost.

You could also use feathers...I do but that's WAY too hippie!

GO Wal Mart way though! I always find neat/cheap beads at Wally World. LOL!

Good luck!

PSIf you start doing the jewelry stuff...i might just check that stuff out! LOL!

Could someone please post details intructions on how to blow out an egg. I have never done it before and wonder what you use and how big to make the whole etc.... TIA Suz

Ya, I have decided to make polymer eggs, sounds like fun...I go to craft shows with my grandma at local highschools. And I dont think anyone that goes to them has seen anything like these puppies!, so about 20$ for each is that right? and the clay cost about 5$, so 15$ profit not that bad.

Edited to say thanks for all you help guys!.
