Going to build a chicken run over the weekend but I'm having trouble picking the right sizes. Everyone seems to say something different. The current measurements I'm looking at would be 6ft long, 3ft wide & 3ft high.

How does that sound. Too big, too small? Some help would be appreciated

Thanks
Ben

The general rule of thumb is 10sqft per chicken (standard size). Access to cleaning is a good point, raised by the above member.

So 6ftx3ft is more than big enough. Thanks for the help, both of you

With 6 chickens, I'd say too small. As mentioned above, 10 sq. ft, per chicken in the run is recommended. FWIW, we have 6 chickens, their run is 8' x 16', larger than the recommended, but since we don't free range it's nice having the extra space.

Might have to rethink this. That's a big ol'run 6x10

Not really, unless you have a small backyard ;) Full grown chickens need a lot of room. Keeping them in close quarters can lead to behavior issues. As I mentioned upthread, we have 6 chickens with a 8' x 16' run. I would only add maybe 2 to that space. Here's a pic of our run...

I'm from the UK, we don't have big open gardens I'm afraid (wish we did) so space is limited.
Ill give it a look over, take some more measurements and see if I can come up with something

Cheers
