Whats a good starter "treat"?

Our chicks love soft scrambled eggs. We beat a couple eggs and put them in the microwave, so there is no grease from the pan. Then mash them with a fork.
They use to get scared of our hands, now they come running.

Mine love hard boiled egg. I chop it up into tiny pieces. At first, they weren't too sure, but now they LOVE it. It's fun to watch!

Has anyone tried WeetBix? Here in Australia, its a common breakfast cereal - kind of like Shredded Wheat. I crumbled up a bit of it and they went wild. I didn't give them much because I haven't read of anyone else doing this and I wasn't sure if it was good for them or not. But they love it.

If you have any grass, yet, you can pick it, then cut it into half inch long lengths and they will grab it and run. Mine also liked the little wild violets that grow among my grass--they have vitamin C in them. They didn't eat them so much as played "keep away" with them. They are so funny to watch.

My babies love it too! They eat it right out of my hand!

It's funny how they go crazy for it!

I've tried to give them yogurt, but they didn't seem too interested. But I'll try it again when they're a little older.

Do they need chick grit for the hard-boiled egg? We have a LOT left over from Easter.

Last year I gave mine crushed cheerios for their first treat. A lot of people here on BYC were talking about Cheerios at this time last year. I used plain Cheerios, not honey nut. I also gave them uncooked oatmeal. I suspect cooked oatmeal would be better but it will be messy in your hand. And I DID provide grit a couple of days pror to giving the first treat. Remember that these are treats. 90% of the food intake should be chick starter feed.

Polenta-which is just coarse ground cornmeal. They eat it out of my hand at 3 days old. So furry and cute!

Last year, I gave mine crushed up Kix cereal and they went wild for it! They followed the big scary hand from then on to see if there was some more and now that they are a year old, they still check out Momma to see if she has some cereal on hand!

Mine go bonkers for hard-boiled egg yolk. (I eat the white part myself). I mash it with a fork and they eat it right out of my hand. Now when the scary hand comes, they all run to see if it's a snack!
