Male RIR with a female Barred Rock will give you 100% sex-linking. The males will have a spot on their head when they're born. The females will not.

Also, the females will be a black color with some red coloration on the breast and possibly elsewhere on their bodies, while the males will have barring.

If a crossbreed chicken is a chicken of two or more different breeds & if mutts are basically crossbred chickens, then sex links must be mutts when they made from two diferent breeds, just sex linked mutts.

Because some genes exist in a pair in males but only as a single in females, there are some certain and specific crosses that can be made where all the male chicks will be one color and all of the female chicks a different color.

Its handy to be able to have all pullets by sight.

So sex link is a hybrid bird with chicks differentiated by color, and sex link also refers to some genes.

The Silver gene is the most common sex linked gene.

Actual designer chickens are of a proper breed & are expected to conform to type etc. While "designer chicken" might sound nicer, in the case of random crossbreeds, it is inaccurate use of the term.​
