(waiting patiently for the backlash) - I mean evil in a good way ladies, not
in a biblical sense.

If you're in Tyler and have Roo's....any chance you'd be willing to make that pairs? I am in Bridge City and will be going to a dog show in Houston mid march & Dallas late March & would be happy to buy a roo, if he came w/a hen too. I have been wanting silkies BADLY! I'll pay $5 for the roo.
Let me know what you think,
Kristi
P.S. I really like the blues/splash/red/white (in that order) I'm not really into partridge that much or black.

it depends on age and quality, if it fits silkie standard and somes times location. ya can always put them on eggbid too for auction which is most likely where you'd get the best price for them.

shoot me some pics and i'll give ya an idea of what they are worth it's hard to give a value on something if ya can't see it or don't know quality or if they have defects such as wrong color, missing toes ect. here only pet quality roos go from 5-15. if i sold my exhibition roos i could get $100 or more if i wanted big difference in pet or hatchery quality compaired to show or exhibition bloodlines.

yes u can eat a silkie just less meat on them since a banty and all dark meat from my understanding. i've always heard it tastes just like dark meat on a regular chicken or like phesant meat. i don't eat mine. if i have ones i can't use in my breeding programs or i don't want i sell them by quality and age or i trade them sometimes for friends and family to get things i can use or want. last time i had some pet and breeder quality ones that where youngsters, i traded them for osb and fencing to help build more coops, lol. before that i traded for other birds and 2 bundles of shingles.

if ya got an idea of the value of them it makes it alot easier and u pay the feed bill and bored so i'd not want to just give them away either. if someone doesn't like ur price hold out for awhile something better will come along. silkies always find homes usually and are alot easier to get rid of roos than most other breeds. one is cause it is a bantam size, their crow isn't as load and most breeds, they are nicer and not usually mean. i'm sure i could think of others but those are ones people off hand tell me most why they want them.
hope that helps,
silkie

Florida Chick is correct. I have a man who buys my extra roos and sells to people for meat. He will give me as much for a Silkie Roo as he does for a Standard. He actually gets more for the Silkie's than the Standards. If the right people know they are available, they will all be purchased.

I like this explanation of how much it is worth and meat value. Depending on QUALITY and DEMAND, they can be from $0 - 100's. The run in the mill silkie roo is most likely in th e 0-5 range and roo's are rarely in demand.

Silkies as food however can be VERY in demand in the Asian market. My silkie roo's go for 8-10 a piece butchered. They are a delicacy and DO NOT taste like fish as mentioned. They are valued for their supposed medicinal qualities.

And PC, of course ALL women are evil! That's our nature!

sorry i didn't mean meat value. if bought here for meat people buy productions for that. yes if only for meat it is way less cause it is not value of the bird. i was refering to pets, breeders and for show birds, people don't buy silkies here for meat i didn't specify that sorry and yes i agree with on the Asian market.
