This is my first time ever raising chickens and I was quietly pulling weeds in the vegetable garden when my Mom whom was visiting said "the chicks (4, 6wk old BR's) are making an awful racket over there." I ran over and boy were they ever! They were running after each other jumping, flying, chirping, bouncing and sliding in the grass all fighting over... a big juicy WORM!

I had wet the grass to help keep the ground cool and apparently a worm came up and the chicks went CRAZY! It was the funniest thing EVER!!!

When I told my husband about it he decided to pick up some mealworms on his way home. The chicks went nuts for these too. My 3 year old son even held a worm to give to the chicks. I couldn't believe how crazy they went over these things. It will definitely be a regular treat for them. What a fun experience chickens are.

Isn't it fun!

I was outside w/ the hens last night and heard a similar commotion. Why on earth they want to announce, I'VE FOUND SOMETHING GOOD TO EAT! And they try and play keep away with it until they can get it down.

Anyway, one of my girls found a snail and a similar frenzy issued. They are 9 months old and up till now, wouldn't even look at a snail. Even if I handed it to them. I think I was more excited than the hens. Because one of the big reasons for getting chickens was for pest control and I have some of the biggest, healthiest snails ever.

Itsn't that a hoot when one chicken gets something and the others want it? It's like total chaos!

Yesterday, I had sliced up and chilled some cucumbers in some water. So I offered it to the flock as a nice, refreshing treat. I just threw each slice out, one by one and they had a blast running to see who would grab them first......

It was too cute!

Ours are big fans over crickets or grasshoppers they find hopping in tall grass. Also, when the pecans are ready for picking, they enjoy a nice big piece to run around with clucking about.

They are definately fun to raise and they keep you smiling. Even when they do bad things- sometimes it's too cute to be angry with.
