Raccoons will eat anywhere! They don't HAVE to have water to eat there food. This is a very old wives tale. (use to raise blonde and red raccoons) so don rule out coonie. They can squish themselves pretty flatbtoo, and are very strong. (strong enough to shove a dog under water)

I would set a live trap in front of door with piece of chicken in it.
