Hi All you lovely chicken lovers

Im on my 3rd batch in the bater this year and nothings happening 18 eggs. The first two I let go all the way, 22days and opened them up at the end and nothing was fertil but I knew that from candling but just incase (just use a tourch). This last batch are day 7 just candle and all I can see is the yolk floting around.

Im trying to hatch from my Black Orpingtons have two cocks and four pretty girls and the deed is being done regular. What I am wondering if mites could be effecting the fertility of the male/ female they had a bad attack and may be still have a few but am dusting again tommorow. They have a fab open area of padock to wonder and I put down a dust bath with the powder mixed into sand in the hope they may do it themself LOL, but they prefure to make their own!! We are also moving them into their new egg cube tommorow so things should get real clean and posh!!

We are hoping to get some new girls in soon but in the mean time am confused as to why we are not getting happy eggs?? Good food/ free roaming/ fresh water etc happy hens. Am woried about the mites they were the ones that leave the balls of eggs on the feathers and it was quite bad cos Orpingtons have so many god dam feathers!!

Any advice much appreciated happy hening

If they are younger birds, they sometimes "miss the mark" until they get the hang of things. I had this problem with my Orp Roo, but he is finally finishing the job
