What's green gel?

Hi Everyone!

I just read a post about baby chicks and she spoke about green gel. I haven't come across anything about green gel. I've missed something.

It's called Gro-gel and it's given to day-old and young chicks to jump start their hydration and nutrition before they learn how to eat regular chick food.

It is not necessary to go and get it. Some hatcheries add it when shipping day old chicks but I would not go buy any for my chicks. Dip their beaks in water and show them the chick starter - they will be fine. You can add a little apple cidar vinagar to the water 1 tsp for a pint. You can give them a little plain yogurt with some starter crumbles.
I wouldn't go buy the green stuff unless you plan on shipping some day old chicks somewhere.
