Whats in YOUR bator????? UPDATE, Pics Pg 12

sadly we have nothing in the incubator as I decided our foam one and me just don't get along too well. I let a Pheonix hen hatch out whatever was being laid, and a neighborhood cat got all of the chicks but 1, hubby is now on a mission to catch said cat (hey it keeps him busy while I make want lists, lol).

In Jan (tax time) we will be getting a sportsman and see if me and it get along, lol.

I do have a question. If a hen is laying in winter, at what temp do the eggs become no good? I know the best thing is to collect them several times a day but i was wondering if they are laying and it is 30 degrees out, will the eggs be any good.

Thanks,
Katie

After a few disasterous hatches (though I still have some chicks and I am grateful for that) I currently have in my bator, turkeys, silkies, silkie crosses, buff brahmas, light brahmas, silver seabrites and EEs.

Bator is now empty again

. Final count on my ducklings is 5 out of 7 eggs. One appears to have died about a week ago and the other died while zipping (very sad)

The 5 babies are so cute, I'm very happy with my hatch considering the eggs were given to me and I didn't even know if they were fertile.

Good luck to the rest of you, I think I am done for a little while. (Maybe

Congrats on your 5 sweet little ducklings!

I just moved my 26 eggs to egg cartons and added some water for hum., today is day 18. If any will hatch, it should happen in the next few days. Theres shipped Bantam (3) and Standard Faverolles (5), 10 shipped EEs, 5 EE eggs I bought at the auction and random white and brown eggs that were in the carton from the auction (who knows whats in them lol). I am still refusing to get my hopes up yet! I candled a few yesterday and saw movement in some, none in a couple. I think I will be happy if I end up with even a couple live healthy chicks! This will be my first ever and last hatching attempt this year. I have too many chicks to get through the winter as is....11 four week olds and 29 one week old chicks, plus whatever hatches.

I have three maran eggs from Tfpets (Tina), three of my mixed eggs, and three of her mixed eggs all ready to hatch this weekend. Also, I got 12 eggs from Siz8003, three were smash by the PO, but I have 5 Maran, and 4 EE eggs in the other side of the bator. I'm waiting on my October swap eggs, and some quail eggs that are supposed to arrive sometime.

I still have at least one more batch of my barred rock eggs I want to hatch, but they have to start laying first, and their combs aren't pinking up even a little yet.

I have 7 Barred Rock's from Speckled Hen and 5 Buff Orps from Hinkjc that are due to hatch on Wednesday. I just realized after looking at one of the pictures that I forgot to put down the plastic shelf liner stuff over the wire. Is there anyone else that doesn't use it??
