What's one fact about poultry that SHOCKED you?

Guess I'm immune. Granny had chickens, ducks, and geese from before I can remember. Papa had cows, mules, and horses.

I'll tell ya don't walk between a momma heifer and her calf. My cousin and I sit on the pond for hours laughing at my lil brother after he made that mistake. He sit in that pine tree crying the whole time which made it even funnier.

I will say I didn't know about the narrow/far vision thing. Learn something new every day. Have to check it tho and make sure it's true see if the chooks look at me the same as I walk up vs knelled down giving them treats.

Nothing shocks me anymore. But I wasn't thrilled when I read chickens engage in cannibalism.
That is what shocked me as well, the cannibalism.... or that they would kill mice and eat them. I thought chickens eat corn, wheat... an worm every now and then... that they are totally docile and nice. In fact they can be cruel.

The thing that shocked me was how easily they can die... My Barred Rock hen died while we were trying to introduce them to the other flock. Also some of my beautiful austrolorps just died in the summer because their black feather made them very hot.
